I would run at speeds up to 102 m.p.h. then take off and fly (but not high because I'm afraid of heights).

In the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, the sky can be an unbroken gray for days or weeks. It's not for the faint of spirit. Even a photograph of blue sky could get me through an hour - a little break from the unrelenting gloom. If you're a kindred soul, these are for you:

I love, love, love cloud pictures. We had beautiful weather when we were in the fingerlakes area. Isn't it great to be who we are.
The Finger Lakes are absolutely exquisite for five months. It's what gets people through. At the front end of winter we remember the fall. At the back end, we anticipate the spring. And always, there's summer to think about. New Yorkers pack a lot into the summer, and it gallops.
I relate to existential angst and hip pain except mine is knee pain. Close.

I didn't realize you were from the Finger Lakes region... absolutely gorgeous there... my profile picture is at the Adirondack museum .... forget exactly where it was.
I spent a week or more in that area.
Saranac - I think it was ... I asked the visitor place if I could park there overnight in their parking lot. They said yes.
Then off I wandered for hours. Came back and realized I had certainly locked Homer but left the passenger side window down!
Not one thing was missing! The next day -- I told them ... I was amazed and they didn't seem fazed.
Beautiful area.
Oh yea, I want to fly in the blue sky.
If I were in the Fingerlakes I'd tour all those wineries again. I think the scenery is beautiful too ;-)

Yep, Carolyn, I was there 32 years. I have a lot of relatives there, but don't know any of them - weird, huh. I was born in Ohio and did some of my growing up in Florida. The ADKs are beautiful, especially in the fall.
Rubye, glad to hear I'm not alone in my angst, although I'd be glad for you not to have the knee pain.
Odd (I will learn another name), there are A LOT of wineries there now. A LOT! At least in the Seneca Lake area. Hard to imagine how the area can sustain so much of the same industry, but NY can finally ship its wine out of state.

Kelly, cool about Rochester. We lived in a little town north of Ithaca.
I asked someone there (Bouse Community Park) about water hookups for O/N, but that's full, and he offered me bulk water "for dishes" at the dump site. We drink from our tank, so we want to keep it sanitary. I'm still confused about the best place to get drinking water before we take off.
No wonder you have angst, I can see now that you are a drifter. Ohio, NY, Florida. Are you just hitting the big states to throw the election???
HAHA! I hadn't thought of that. I might also need to stay a while in Pennsylvania.
Sounds like the kind of questions we were asked when we visited a doc here in Wienerland. He was/is into homoeopathy. (thankfully I have a built in dictionary, 'cause that one was a challenge)
Anyway, questions like, "Do you sleep with the window open?"
I don't think I was helping, since I then asked, "when?"
Anyway, after a couple visits to him, we found someone else, who actually knows what's what when it comes to things like, oh I don't know, high blood pressure and diabetes? Neither of which have anything to do with having a window open at night.
Apparently though, this dude is "world renowned".
Whatever.
Oh, and hip pain? I'm with ya on that one. But I'll see your hip pain, and raise you some sort of "spastic colon", which also turns out to be painful in a wake you out of a sound sleep sort of way.
Need a flush and fill. Or something.
Oh oh...and just for the fun of it, I should mention that T.C. (and yes, she does exist) and I had an apartment in Horseheads, N.Y. once upon a time. Loved the finger lakes. Mostly in the summer though.
Horseheads! OMG Bob, why wouldn't you turn that music down? That is very close. For many years my late ex- and I lived in Reynoldsville (not that you would have a reason to know where that is), and owned a business in Watkins Glen.
Ooh, colon stuff. You win that round. I must confess a preference for the Eastern (or at least non-Western) styles of medicine, although I do the conventional check-up/routine screening things while my insurance covers them. I especially like the things I can practice on myself, like reflexology. Meditation. Walks in the desert with my Chinese stick.
The dump & water station is open at the Bouse county park. $10

Ha... I lived in Horseheads and Elmira, small world ! somewhere around 1966-67-68.

Kelly! Wow, that's crazy! I didn't get there until 1979, and stayed 32 years. Did you know Bob?
We went for the RV Pit Stop option in Quartzsite, and got RO water there. Man, is that water guy GROUCHY! He must be in some kind of severe discomfort. The propane guy was quite friendly, though. We were afraid of the DIPS next 2 miles because I noticed every dip had 87 gouges at the bottom.
Sue, almost never and it's always in a plane that I suddenly need to fly myself.
There was a little department store in Elmira, I ran the old fashioned elevator for awhile ! plus numerous other jobs.....lived in a little travel trailer behind a church for awhile, then a basement apt. with Helen & Curly.
hung around Chambers Church camp..worked in the mess hall some,roller skating lots...

BTW: how much for dump & water at Pit Stop? Host at Bouse said they now charge $20?? hopefully you didnt have to pay that.
It wasn't Iszard's, was it? There was one of those in Ithaca with an escalator, if you can imagine an escalator in Ithaca. Your elevator probably had one of those inner stretchy doors? The other names don't ring a bell for me. Did you freeze solid in the travel trailer?
Elmira is so, so depressed now. I had to go there for unemployment sessions for a while, and in the middle of the day there was no traffic, no bustle, no anything. It was a neutron bomb city.
We don't dump, but I think it's $10. We did pay $13 for our water, though; it's by the gallon for the RO.
Well I see you have your head in the clouds again...but then, isn't that what ducks do? Not a bad place to be ;-)
