We saw a Kaibab squirrel this week, but all of us were too excited for portraits.
Angel's Window. From a point on the trail, you can look through it and see the Colorado River. Thanks, Teri! |
The ledge above the window area is about 30" wide. What you can't see from this angle is that the window is reinforced with concrete. For your safety and confidence.

The Kaibab squirrel: the archetype for allopatric speciation.
Lovely pix!
Also, the murderer's name is AAAARGH...
We haven't been back to the Canyon since August 2008 and would really love to. This time my jaw wouldn't be hanging on the ground. I remember watching the scenery change before my eyes as the angle of the sun changed. Unbelievable!
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Rob, you were thinking my two biggest thoughts here (besides bison). I almost wrote "AAAARRGGH."
Rick and Kathy, your jaw still might hang! Thanks!
Simply beautiful, gorgeous, fantastic, amazing pictures. I remember seeing the Kaibab squirrels when I was running at the North Rim last August. What a difference a year makes. For me that is, not the squirrel....well maybe for him too. You didn't happen to ask did you?
WAIT - (WHY do I ALWAYS think of the other thing I wanted to say AFTER I click publish??) - what Bison??? Should I get out my magnifying glass and look more closely at the pictures?? Bison at the Grand Canyon? WAIT...
Are you at the campstore right now? I'm having lunch but will be there in a few just to check.
Glad you're getting out to enjoy the views.
Many awesome rim boondocking sites with a bit of gravel driving through the forest.
Fantastic pictures! That Angels window is shaped a bit like the state of Vermont. Or is that just me being homesick?
Woah ,woah woah......such great shots...woah!!!
Have enjoyed your trip and would really love to hear where a few good boondocking spots are on the North Rim. Hubby has lived in AZ 40 years and yet to see the Grand Canyon. It'll still be a few more years but would sure love to get him there.
Grace (in Tucson)
Isn't the canyon just amazing!
Great pictures, as usual! That squirrel is cute, tho it looks pretty much like all its brethren: A rodent.
Wait, where'd you go?
Wow, amazing photos. This is in Colarado? Where abouts? Google map pinpoint please? hehe
I've always heard that you just can't capture the vastness of the Grand Canyon but I gotta say, you are doing one fine job. Great photos!
Spectacular, your photos are beyond the beyond.
Love the pics. Wish we were there too.
D & D - thanks! You would love it here. No Texas heat!
Thank you, Contessa!
Thanks, Paint! No, you really can't.
FVD, thank you. It's actually the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Arizona. I'll work on a Google map, but for now, the zip is 86052, which should get you to the general vicinity.
Thanks, Intrepid! Where did I go...when? I'm back! They're cute little rodents, though.
Janie, it's beyond words, which doesn't seem to stop me.
Grace, I'll be working on those boondocking locations to post gradually, because there are several good ones.
Thank you, Michelle!
Thanks, Chris. It is, isn't it? A bit of both, probably.
Sherry, it was only a year ago you were here? Yes, lots has changed. The squirrel asked about you. The bison? Well, check the latest post for their status.
