More tales from the North Rim, Grand Canyon

I don't really have tales. I have pictures. I'll make up stories for you as I go.

Sorry, hawk. I just can't stop laughing at you. That pose is ridiculous. You look just like a AAAACCKKK MY EYES!!!

Photobucket

Back at the General Store for wifi. The crowd got unruly and suspicious when I began uploading photos, and I didn't appreciate the latte to the head. I'll save them for another time when they won't be so appropriate.

I think I may have mentioned? There are laundry facilities and showers here in the park. You can eat a meal at the Lodge while sitting on, and I mean ON the rim. We haven't tried that, although we've eaten food on the rim, so is there a difference? Only in the financial sense.

The altitude sickness seems gone. Thanks for the suggestions and timeline - they all helped. Boy, am I hydrated!

Ah yes, I remember the general store and wifi. I did several blog posts from there without any latte. But had to be careful to pick my time of day since tables were scarce.

Glad to hear the sickness has left you. Hydrated is good. That hawk looks like he's rocked back on his heels checking you out before he draws his guns or something. And the story of the red mushroom/toadstool is???????

So, what's the deal? Are we supposed to make up our own story for the mushrooms? Cause I got nothin'. Not even a very lame joke.

Great photo of the rim. It makes it look like you had it all to yourself. Wouldn't that be cool? Well, maybe not, 'cause then you might be in a post-apocalyptic scenario....

Sorry, I've had too much time on my hands this afternoon.

I am happy to hear of your successful hydration. Altitude sickness sucks.

you touch that mushroom, I shoot. See what I did to those trees on the rim? Yes, that could be you. Do not touch my 'shroom.
Signed, the hawk.

That's not really a mushroom, it's a painted turtle, right?

Glad to hear you're getting enough water to stay hydrated. Otherwise, you'll end up looking like that mushroom!

Are you certain the hawk is not "owling"?

back in my hippie commune days we would dry the cap of that Amanita Muscaria shroom, scrape off the white dots, put that in a pipe and smoke it. Did we get high? Who remembers? But that was the point. We knew enough not to eat the darn thing!

Good news on the feeling better. That pic of the North rim looks like a good latte sipping place. Keep on quacking!

Mushroom, huh? Thought it was simply a sunburned burger bun (but then since you're only doing juice and veggies these days, I 'spose not). LOVE that hawk!! Glad you're feeling better.

Don't eat those mushrooms or you'll be more than hydrated. Sure glad you're enjoying the rim.

I may have to go to Yarnell again on my next weekend. I'll be at the visitor center Sunday 10-12:30 and Monday I'm off at 6p.

and what good is a duck without enough water?

That duck is jerky. No one wants a jerky duck around.

Okay, I won't ingest or smoke the mushrooms. But they're so pretty! I figured they told their own story. Like the hawk *snicker*

Chris, is that really what they're called? And did you really smoke the dots? Crazy hippies, anyway.

Karen, it could be the mushroom burger and the bun all at once.

Harriet, will do!

Donna, I'm NOT sure of that! I should have considered the possibility that he was purposely ridiculous.

The mushroom is pretty, Rick, but I'm not sure I want to resemble it.

Russ, are you smoking tortoises again?

Wow, Cyn, you make that hawk sound dangerous instead of ridiculous. Good job! He wants to hire you for his PR.

Teresa, I'd settle for a few minutes of post-apocalyptic. Or, at least quiet. It's not hard to get a few minutes alone at the North Rim, though, unlike the South. I think everyone is doing a good job of storyfying the mushrooms.

Sherry, you might have sat at the very table we're at today! Or the one yesterday! Or... We haven't had a latte yet, because there's no soy, and milk tastes funky to me.

Love the view shot. No one expects all that green at the Grand Canyon. Glad you're feeling better.

It's true, Andra, they don't. We were surprised at how green it is on the North Rim. There is actual mountain forest up here! And, thanks.
