Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument teaser

Head out Johnson Canyon Road to the Paria Movie Set. Bring your zoom lens, because it's private property, and falling down. These may be the LAST PICTURES EVER TAKEN of this set.

If you keep going this way, you'll accidentally find yourself in the Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument. Bonus! Come for the Gunsmoke, stay for the scenery.

Isn't she a butte?

Made my heart go bump-a-thump. A little Eternabond, and that roof is ready to go.

Road crosses the creek, or vice versa. See the storm clouds? So did we, and turned around just ahead.

Get behind us, Sally Quinn, you temptress.

We call this day Sally Quinn, because she is behind us, too.

Darn your sorry hides. You're in one of my favorite places. I have several photos of the Paria movie set. I believe many scenes from "Butch Cassidy..." were filmed there. There's a campground called Calf Creek, outside Escalante, that's very cool. Wait a minute, I have to wipe the drool off my computer screen.

There. Good to go again, I think.

Teresa, I think it is becoming one of my favorites, too. It just feels good here. We haven't made it to Escalante yet.

Quit it - you're shorting out my keyboard.

Sherry, we're parked in an odd, but unexpectedly beautiful place. I'll mark it when we leave.

Gorgeous butte you've got there! No, really. So much gorgeousness. :)

Why, thank you! Yes, it's a full plate around here.

I've always been a sucker for a gal with a great butte.

The Good Luck Duck said...

LOL, Bob! You and me, both.

LOL thats all I can say. Enough butte jokes already!

See any condors? Out in that area is where we got to see them. So gorgeous out that way.

The Good Luck Duck said...

Not yet, Sandie! I didn't know to look for them here.

Michelle, I can try to lay off, but I can't control this group!

All repaired and on the road again??? Escalante is amazing, Capitol Reef is also and worth the visit!

And, if we get that far, we're told of some great hiking in Canyonlands. It doesn't end!

Glad to know you're watching out for flash floods. I have a great story about natural selection by flash flood, but this may not be the proper forum to tell it in.

Oh, forgot to say—my graduate advisor at the U. of Utah has a vacation home in the Canyonlands area, but far to the north of where you are now.

So far, everyone here has turned down the Darwin Award, so it's probably fine. And, I want to hear it.

The Good Luck Duck said...

And, send me his address. He's not using it now.

Beautiful photos - thanks for sharing!

Love the bedding planes on those buttes.

Looks like a few less buildings at the Paria than last fall. Guess I'd better get back out there before your photos are the Last.

You could explore the Escalante for months/years.

Marvellous photos, as usual!

Still trying to catch up with you! You must be reading our itinerary. Is it still hot there?

We are an uncontrollable group! Hmmm it is part of who we are and why we do what we do! Great pics. I love them as always.

Stunning views, how can you ever leave such an incredible area like this? I don't think I could so I'd better not go there... ;c)

The Good Luck Duck said...

Paul & Marti, I'm asking myself the same question. It feels good here.

KLB, you are! I've turned loose of the reins. Thank you.

Tammy, you can't trust a boulder further than you can throw it. Rocks lie all the time, mostly about ice cream.

Hi Judie! I keep trying to read your itinerary, but I can't find it! Where we are parked, it is never hot. I don't know why. We're up a little ways out of Kanab. Days in town can still get a little hot, but I'm not finding it oppressive here at all.

Thanks, Contessa!

Gaelyn, I believe that completely. We met a couple back on Padre Island who said the best place they've been was the GES, and they would settle here if they could find suitable employment. Their definition of "suitable" was much more rigid than mine is.

The Good Luck Duck said...

Thanks, Rick. The pleasure is mine, too.

It's beautiful here, Jojo.

Cyn, the butte started it!

Hi Roxanne - I'm on my iPad which doesn't have your email address for some reason. Well this is embarrassing... Just totally ignore my earlier email since you obviously implemented idea number 1 ages ago. Clearly I AM really good at ignoring stuff. I think I am your problem :-). Maybe you better start waving your mouse around. in the meantime I'm going to go find a new thinking cap. Mine is clearly unplugged.

Donna and I were laughing about your butte picture and Bob's comment and your reply. Donna's got a new line for me now..."Does this leaf make my butte look smaller?" Thanks!
