Be My Guest boondocking coupon code. Lipid profile and glucose: vegan-style.

Last October we were vegetarian, but not vegan. About halfway in-between these two tests, we removed dairy and eggs from our diets; this represents about six months of a whole-foods vegan diet.

These numbers haven't been this good since I was a spring duckling. I expect them to get better.

Thanks for the good numbers all around. I had some blood drawn this morning for much the same reason. Will know my results after my doctor calls me later on.

You are a paragon of good health!

The Good Luck Duck said...

Susan, right now I'm sort of an octagon of good health, but I'm working on that, too.

Fingers crossed, Russ!

I wouldn't mind throwing a few crumbs your way, but I already joined up too. Beside I don't want to mess with your good numbers!! Way to go!!

The Good Luck Duck said...

It's just as well, Karen. I am trying to do something about the octagonity. Thanks!

I'm not sure where I'm at now, but do have plans to get my bloodwork done next month. Since it is October I thought I would scare the beejeesus outta everyone here.

June 2011
517 Total Cholesterol
3570 Triglcerides

In my defense I make the mistake of consuming a big bowl of chicken fettuccine alfredo whilst washing it down with 103 whiskey bourbon. Even though there was a 12 hour fasting period the results were still skewed. If only a little a bit.

The sedentary lifestyle definitely wasn't agreeing with me. I did change my diet drastically and began physically moving around a lot more often (hiking).

I'll follow up with the results next month if you or anyone else is interested.

All right there Vegans. Those total and LDL levels are looking VERY FINE. Congratulations!!!

STEVE! Holy Tail Feathers, man! It's true that a big meal will boost your triglycerides, but ... Great Quacking Fatty Blood!

You're sure that's not a typo, right, 'cuz 357 is a pretty high reading without a counterfeit zero hanging out at the end. I'm pretty sure I'm interested in your follow-up!

Thanks, Sherry! I'm hoping this continues the downward trend.

Steven said...

Nope, it was accurate. The results were to be mailed to me about 3 weeks after the blood was taken, but instead I got a call two days later from a very young and nervous sounding girl with those numbers. The printed report arrived three weeks later and had the same numbers. On a more positive note everything else was perfectly normal.

I'll let you guys know what turns up next month.

Those numbers look pretty good! If I ever converted to a vegan lifestyle I think my misery index would go through the roof. I admire those, like you, who can do it and like it. I guess I just don't want to so I'd be very unhappy if I ever had to. Does that make sense?

TravelBug-Susan said...

Octagon of good health...LOL, LOL. Good one.

The Good Luck Duck said...

Rick, i don't want those numbers to be my stopping point, but as a measure of progress I'm pretty happy - thanks! I hope your numbers stay good so you can stay happy! :D

Wowzers, Steve. Yeah, please do report on your progress. I'm amazed your doctor didn't push you into drugs immediately.

Be sure to let Steve know we are all worried about his numbers. Mine aren't as good as yours but no where near Steve's. I'd love to join through your link but I joined way back at the beginning when Marianne sent out the info.

Hooray!! Quack Quack Clap Clap!!! Great numbers Roxanne and very compelling further evidence that going the extra step from vegetarian to vegan is well worth it.

Rick-- moving to a plant-based diet doesn't have to be and "all or nothing" decision. Even embracing a "Meatless Monday" can be helpful to your health (and the planet!). You might surprise yourself with how much you enjoy some of the new plant-based recipes ("something different for a change!"), and if that happens, go ahead and make other meatless meals during the week too!

For me, I was a junk-food junkie and had to finally go full-vegan to end my processed foods/sugar/salt addictions, but I've been amazed at how little I've missed those old foods in the 5 months I've been vegan (and many other vegans find the same).

I never quite made it to Vegan eating, but all the changes I made have also resulted in good numbers. Your sharing the Video and the information about Forks Over Knives has been a big influence.

so glad your numbers are great.

The Good Luck Duck said...

I'm so glad, Merikay! That movie made a big impression on us, too. I'd be interested in your numbers, if you should decide to share.

Lynne, it was exciting to see this progress! My diet is not perfect, but is so much better and it seems to matter. I agree with your comment to Rick. Everyone eats "vegan food;" most people just supplement it with animal products. :D

Sandie, I hope Steve stops back to see your concern, or you could stop over at his site to let him know. Hopefully his lifestyle changes will show up in his numbers next month.

I joined up then, too. I don't have an RV spot to share, so my membership will come up for renewal in the spring.

Thanks! I'm pleased with them.

That is great !!! Another great movie to watch for anyone trying to change their life is " Fat, sick and nearly dead". Ducks , is that the movie that prompted you to go on a juice diet? And how long did you stay on Juice only?

Lynne, Like you I now find that I do not miss Meat at all. I went vegitarian about 8 years ago , alltho will admit to slipping up every now and then and eating beef the first couple years. Am still working on vegan. I don't do dairy but have occassional egg and I am not that great at label reading so my stout vegan friends would never let me call myself vegan, LOL. My numbers are great !! Anyways, at this point in my life I do not crave meat at all.

Question for the Ducks. Have either of you gone back to drinking coffee since your reboot? Truthfully, I am not so convinced that coffee is all that bad for you, in moderation. I like 2 cups in the am. Alltho when I do the 7 day juice will scale it to half cup or none.

The Good Luck Duck said...

Yes, that's the one! We did 10 days with juicing and chewing (fruits and veggies).

I don't think coffee is especially bad, either. We just liked that we weren't dependent on it to get going in the morning, so we didn't go back. I sometimes drink white or green tea, though.

Holy cow. That did scare me. You really need to watch Forks Over Knives!

I eat vegan & my numbers are always great. Happy for you.

The Good Luck Duck said...

Good deal, Mary! Thanks.

Steve's numbers, Karen? I know. People care about you, Steve! A new vegan lifestyle may be just the thing for your new situation.

Tessa Hill said...

Hooray! Well done, Roxanne! The improvement in your numbers is totally amazing! It won't be long with your excellent commitment to exceptional health that your numbers will be below the magic numbers of 150 Total and 80 LDL to make you heart attack-proof. Look at the tremendous drops in those two already. Wow! Thanks so much for sharing. Fantastic!

The Good Luck Duck said...

Thanks, Tessa, for the encouragement! I'm very pleased with this improvement, and I look forward to having the numbers run again (maybe in six months, or next time the machine comes to town!). I'm also hoping that the triglycerides will respond to more exercise.

Way to go with the numbers! Isn't incredible what removing meat and dairy does for the ol' ticker? :)

The Good Luck Duck said...

In our case, just dairy (and eggs). And, yes! Amazing!

Nickie and Jim said...

Wowzers on low numbers! Holy cow, I love cheese, but those teensy numbers make me ALMOST want to quit. I'd prob need a 12-step program to quit, tho. I know, I can cut down... right?

Essential Question: Do you really feel better?

The Good Luck Duck said...

Intrepid, the first step is admitting your powerlessness over cheddar. Of course, cutting down is always an option! Just not for me, because there is no "less," there is only "more."

I feel much, much better. I feel like doing things. I have energy. I continue to lose weight.
