A self-serving post* about baby Ducks

I mentioned that rancherly guy stopping to warn us about National Forest Service tickets. We puzzled over that for a bit, did our research, downloaded some apps and some maps, put on our parkas and boots, and with little ado, checked out our distance from the road. We were about 600 feet from the Forest Service road, which is legal times two. Yes, that's an abuse of math; we were out-of-bounds, even though it's a well-used campsite.

So, we ducked up a little. But, we found ourselves a fine spot well within NFS limits, and repositioned so morning sun hits our windowed side and starts warming us up right away. Viva passive solar!

Today is my son Phil's 26th birthday, and he sometimes reads the blog. So, I'm going to show off a couple of  pictures of his early duckling down and cute little bill.

Happy Birthday, Phil! I love you! ♥♥

Well I'm sure Phil is just so pleased to see his picture on the world wide web. I know I sure would be. 'Cause I too had such an awesome haircut when I was that age.
Sure hope Mom never used that bowl for my porridge.
But... Happy Birthday to Phil!

Lowell, Bob! I never bowled the boy - I cut his hair with scissors and the feathering technique known to most moms. Isn't the internet great? Thirty years ago, mothers were limited to embarrassing their children in front of sweethearts.

Awww....he was almost as cute as a kitten!

Karen, there were three times I would have traded him in for one. Now I'm pretty glad I didn't.

What a blondie!, or is towhead? good to have fond memories.

Roxanne said...

Both, Merikay! People used to ask him where he got his blond hair, and he would say "from my uncle." His father said "Make him stop saying that." :D

No ugly duckling for you... looks like he's been a swan from the beginning. Happy Birthday, Phil!

Happy Birthday, momma duck!

Looks like he got a Christmas wish..."all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth"... Love those toddler pictures when the teeth are just coming in. Phil is a real cutie patootie (or was anyway...I don't know about now as you didn't include a current picture)!! Yes, it sure is fun to embarrass them in front of everybody...payback is sweet. Happy Birthday Phil. I really meant that. I'm only joking with the rest of my blather.

What a cutie and where is the picture of what is sure to be a handsome 26 year old???? I have a 32 year old daughter....maybe we can work something out here? Unless he already has ducklings of his own.

Awwww...he's a cutie, and I bet he's even cuter now...

Leave it to Donna, to show off her blather in public. At least you had the right idea, Roxie, in not showing those "other" baby pictures that moms are prone to show folks. Happy Birthday to your fine son. Eat some carrot cake and celebrate!

Gaelyn said...

He's a handsome lad, and probably not bad now either. But we don't know as no current pic.

Do those NFS folks get out a measuring tape?

Roxanne said...

Gaelyn, he's a fine-looking guy nowadays, too, but he's a real pain with mugging for the camera. Measuring tape: kinda. I'm sure it depends absolutely on the ranger you get. One of the very nice ones in Coconino explained that if we were perpendicular to the 30' road, at 38.5 feet we'd be in violation. He was still feeling his way through the changes.

I have some of those, Russ, but they're best saved for moms and girlfriends.

He's pretty cute, Jeannie!

Sherry, he's quite handsome. He doesn't have a brood (yet), but he does have a lovely partner, Katy.

Donna, toddler teeth kill me dead. So funny-looking and cute.

Thanks, Marianne and Annie! Thanks, Sharon!

I cut my kids' hair often, too. Makes for some fun pics later! I put the ones from my birthday blogs I did this year up on facebook for my kids to share yesterday and Katrina's first comment was "look at all that hair!"

Roxanne said...

Cute! I'm glad I'm not the only Embarrasser. :D My cousin put on a DVD yesterday of her kids growing up, and the 80's were hysterical!

Such a cutie, one of our sons had hair that color,
it darkened as he got older.

The Good Luck Duck said...

Phil's hair is darker now, too - more like "ash" blond.

Happy Birthday to Phil! I don't think those pictures will embarrass him at all. At 26, he's probably secure enough with himself to handle all the adoration of his mom and all of her friends.

You're lucky you had the warning before the ticket. These new rules are a pain, aren't they? But I think a warning from the RANGER would be appropriate before he issues a ticket.

Your son is darling! Happy Birthday to Phil from me, too! :)

Happy Birthday, Phil - quack, quack! You were sure no 'ugly duckling'!!

The Good Luck Duck said...

Quack, Rick! He was certainly cuter than either of his parents merited.

Yes, it was a good thing, Barbara! And, I agree.

Sue, no doubt. I didn't even include a bearskin rug shot! And, he is a secure person, so he can laugh about it. I hope.

Aw, cute little tow-headed fart! Happy big 26th Phil, from a whole host of people you don't know!

I can't get it to load, Bob. I hope it wasn't this:

because that's not the kind of self-serving I meant!!

Oh, I got it! It's great! I want to watch it fully when we get good connectivity again. Thank you!
