We attended a Hare Krishna service at their temple Sunday night. I was intrigued, and I wanted to get a feel for the thing. I mean, people who can make food like that? Worth investigating.
If you're curious and a teeny bit adventurous, give it a try. It's not scary. I'd say their worship is more spirited than Jehovah's Witnesses and more restrained than Pentecostals. If you just want to eat delicious restaurant food at Govinda's, you won't be accosted with religion at all, but you won't be restrained when you yell YUM!
They didn't tell me this, but digging around I see that Hare Krishnas are involved in food relief efforts, and serve 1.5 million free veg*n meals a day worldwide.

Ha!..I saw a sign the other day...it said...Starbucks is my Higher Power! Made me laugh out loud. I know nothing about Hare Krishnas but would like to go to service just to see...probably nice.

We were there a couple winters ago and it snowed. It had been 10 years since the last snow then. Hmmm, just 2 years later, could the weather be changing?

Glad you had a good experience with the Hare Krishna's - harder to keep that balanced view for Oregonians. A little too similar to the Rajneeshpuram in Antelope OR ;)
The birds are from the Zoo they fly back and forth. Did you do the Zoo its great.

Anne, I looked that up. What a nightmare. It must have felt like all-out war. That sounds more like Colorado City and the Jeffs-ians than the Hare Krishnas. These guys just seem to have regular jobs and lives and they go to church on Sunday. And THE FOOD!

You know we never went to Govinda's while living there. mainly because Karin was convinced she didn't like Indian food. But now that we have convinced her otherwise, we'll have to go there when we get back to Tucson. That patio is really pretty!
Snow today - gone tomorrow! Hope so. The only snow I want to see is in photos and yours are very, very good!

Hare Krishnas are so 70's! I didn't know they were still active. I live under a rock.
Right? I was scared of them in the 70's. I was already in a cult that didn't like competition.
When I left Truth or Consequences yesterday morning, there had been snow the night before, and there was still a little left on the sides of the roads and more of it up on Turtleback Mountain.
There was snow up in Texas Canyon, in Wilcox, and all along the way to Tucson. But then west of Tucson, it was warmer.
Today I am in Why and it is sooo nice and warm that it actually feels refreshing when a breeze stirs up. I had lunch at the Oasis, in the shade, gazing at palm trees.
And I am wondering, why aren't you here? You could be here in two hours. Darby Road is calling your names. No, wait, that's me.
Somebody probably already identified the birds for you, but since I had not time to read the previous comments, I will still mention that I believe they are night herons. Though I am surprised to see them in the daylight, so maybe I am wrong.

Well I guess I'll have to jump in here since I just dragged myself out of the Everglades to see what you guys have been up to for the past 2 weeks while I have been gone and have been often seeing Black Crowned Night Herons during the day. Maybe they behave differently in the Everglades where there is no snow ever, not ever.
