I don't have any pictures, and I haven't left the Duck yet, so this is all theoretical. You've seen the Prius (now called "Spud"); it's pretty typical. The modifications I'm using are pretty close to what Suanne used. I also just found Jessica Spaulding, who lived in her car for five years.
If you had told me two weeks ago I'd be doing this, I would have called you crazy. NOW who's crazy? Unlike Jessica, there is an apparent reason for me to do this. I don't like the reason, but since my first choice is no longer an option, I plan to explore the silver lining.
I don't know exactly when I'll start, but expect it to be soon.

I think I am shocked, but I am not sure until I have more information. Not shocked about you living in the car, but shocked about the reason you may be moving into "spud"
It's possible you're shocked, Nancy. I know I am.
To be clear, no one is making me live out of a car. There are small rigs and vans available. Or, I could pick a city, find a job, and get an apartment. I could move in with my mother. I could move in with my son (he doesn't read this, so he's not hyperventilating). There are options. Later, we will sell the Duck.
Also, I have the option to take the Duck. But, I don't want to drive it around, and I want to go places the Duck doesn't go easily. It's more suitable for Annie's situation, where she will be settling down and hooking up.
We wish you both happiness as you begin your new adventures. I'm so glad you are planning to continue your blog and take us along as you explore the silver lining. Hugs to you... I'm sure this transition is not easy. Grace & Steve (in Tucson)
Holey moley...I must admit I am also a bit surprised by the move to one duck instead of two. I'm sure there is a lot more to this and it's not an easy story, so I just wish each of you the best of vibes during this change. If you ever need to come and dote on random cats, we have 2 that will welcome your rubs. Oh, and we'd be happy to see you too :)
Nina and Paul
Well, I'm shocked! I suppose you've put a composting toilet in the car: ;)
After a while in the Prius you may like it. If it were me I would go for a van that would offer some stealth mode and have curtains. Just sayin'
Nancy, who says I won't have curtains? :o) But, yeah, I can see that later, too.
But, of course, Judy!
Thank you, Paul. We both appreciate that a lot.
Grace, thank you. We could use some good vibes.
There's a lot of that "silver lining exploration" going around lately. We feel for ya....we really do. Hugs & support in large doses!
Change is NEVER easy, but apparently new windows are opening. Please do keep sharing your adventures. Hugs.
Brenda, I'm so sorry you guys are that other kind of demolished. Or, any kind of demolished at all.
Karen, that's true. Windows. C'mon WINDOWS! I will, and thank you.
Oh, things seem to be changing. But yes, please keep up the blog. You will know what you want/need soon enough. Good luck. Please keep us posted!
Thanks, Cyn! I will.
I felt something. Truly. I wrote to find out what. I'm so sorry it is this. I love you both. Hope it is the best for you both. So glad you are keeping up the blog. I wish Annie had one too but I'll keep myself in her life. She's family. I had a hard time trying to meet up with you guys togther and now........ well I'm holding you both in my heart.
Looking foward to Prius adventures especially seeing how one sleeps in a Prius, with a composting toilet of course.
Thanks, Sherry. We both love you, too. You should encourage Annie to blog; it would be worth reading.
Obviously, one can't both sleep and compost in a Prius. I'm going to start drinking coffee again.
Yes when you wrote of the coming changes, I knew, not what, but I knew. My heart hurts for you as I know that change in confounding and bemuttling but there will be another side. There will. Keep yourself open to the universe and you will find your path. I'm through out some cracker crumbs to help you find your way! Take good care and I'll continue to hold you up with kind thoughts and a quack here and there!! Karen
That feels true, Karen. And, I'll take those quacker crumbs, too! Thank you.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this news Rox. Guess these "life changing events" are hitting quite a few of us this Spring. I thought something might be up when the Duck wasn't moving to higher cooler ground from Tucson, but sure sad to hear it was this news.
Well, if our WGS founder can pull herself out of a pit, dust herself off, and blog about "Living in My Car", I have faith that you can summon the strength to do it too. One day at a time.
She's pretty amazing, isn't she?
One day at a time.
I am truly speechless. Wish it wasn't happening but best of luck to you and Annie, in whatever direction that takes. Lynda
I know more than a couple people who enjoy living out of their car. I have no doubt you'll enjoy the adventure. Sorry for the upheaval, though. That's tough for everyone, all around!
It is tough for everyone, Cyndi. Thanks. What does Stumpy with the wise eyes say about all this?
Thank you, Lynda.
WELL this sounds like it'll be exciting. Hugs for them as want em, respectful nods for them as doesn't, and I hope all goes as well as it can anyways.
Good luck to each of you during this life transition.
Do you read To Simplify? Glen is going from a Chinook to a Vanagon...good stealth camping vehicle.
Don't know what to say other than ((BIG HUGS)). Hope all your critters are okay. I hope you're still a Duck cuz Ducks are the best. Best wishes from your Oregon Duck Friend.
Well, as the Bible tells us, "Shit happens". But I wish you the best of luck in your new ahhh, location.
Haven't had the great good luck to meet you, but have posted a few comments. Yours is one of the "Top 3" blogs I go to daily...I LOVE your irreverent -- and any other -- sense of humor. You never fail to make me smile (& sometimes tear up, as in the ongoing adventures of your pet comings-and-goings). Do keep blogging; you've gained quite the following, and we'd be devastated if you stopped. Best wishes, & happy thoughts being cyber-sent.
Renee
I know not what to say. I am sorry if you are sorry, I am excited about the new possibilities if you are excited about the new possibilities.
There is a place in central Illinois for you to park the Prius and a possible job opportunity in a mind-numbing bureaucracy if you are so inclined. LG
Maybe I don't read between the lines very well, but I am surprised. I read the "About Us" tab and saw that, yes, you are each now traveling alone. I have to say, traveling alone is wonderful, at least for me. I hope the transition goes well for you both and that you'll land on your feet. I'm glad you're still posting. :)
It's all about attitude and to keep on keeping on. Best of luck to both of you. Kind of fun living in a car. I lived in a Vega for a couple months way back when. And life is not about what you live in anyway. Tell Annie to blog also, please.
Sending support and hugs to you both.
As the LOLCATS would say: Oh Noes! I hope you're doin' OK and that this is a good change for you.
xoxoxo,
Cat
We're so sorry to hear of these turn of events but certainly wish you both every happiness as you go forward.

OH MY GOD, Kat, you did NOT just Ferron me! I may need sedation now. I actually love that song, and it only makes sense if your heart is broken. Like lots of music, actually.
Thank you, Mike and Terri. Us, too.
Thanks, Kim.
It's true, Gaelyn. It's about what kind of mileage your house gets. :D Thanks!
Thanks Barbara! I hope I do find it wonderful - lots of women do, and I plan to be one of you.
Thanks, LG. I am very sorry, and I am excited about new possibilities. About the mind-numbing bureaucratic job, I don't know what to say! But, a place to park is always a good thing. Thanks!
Thank you Renee - that is some kind stuff to be saying. I like writing this blog, and it would make me sad to stop.
Rodney, that killed me.
Thank you, Donna. The critters are all fine, and will stay with Annie in the big rig. And, once a Duck, always a Duck.
A Vanagon, eh? I like the sounds of that. Thanks, Lisa.
Kate, I am saving that response for the next possible occasion. Thanks. I'll take the hug.
How do we know when we really don't know? Dunno! Wassup meant what IS going on, but I knew. Oh hell, maybe you get the gist, or maybe this makes no sense. Whatever, best of luck....
Recently I ran across this quote by Tad Williams, a fantasy writer, that I really like. I hope you like it, too.
Never make your home in a place. Make a home for yourself inside your own head. You'll find what you need to furnish it - memory, friends you can trust, love of learning, and other such things. That way it will go with you wherever you journey.
Go home, Nickie, you're drunk. :D No, I think I know what you mean. You didn't know, but you knew.
I like that, Sue. It feels good.
Transitions are always a challenge. I hope yours isn't too painful. Hope we hear from Annie too.
I am so sorry and shocked to hear about the big changes in your lives. Best of luck.
did both of you go to new mexico or is annie still in Tucson. sorry to hear of problems. the guys are going to be hauling equiptment to property . hope the best for both of you. give me a call sometime. lucy
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
It took some time to sink in. You know I really love both of you. So best to you both.
All we can do in life is take one step at a time. Keep a smile on your face no matter and soon it will be a real smile.
Anne please start a blog we want to know where you are and that you are doing well.
Roxie, I'm sure once you spend some tme in the car you will know which direction to take. The van is still my dream.
I'm sorry.
This couldn't have been an easy decision but we wish you both the best for this new chapter of your lives.
oh crap !
Thinking of you as you begin a new journey. So glad you are still planning the good life on the road. Best wishes for much success. I'll be following along and cheering you on!
Best of luck to both of you. Please keep blogging! Maureen
Thanks, Mary. I'm sure you'll hear from Annie. Tell her to blog! She has been mostly offline in Yuma this weekend.
Thank you, Karen.
Thanks, Poops - I'll keep in touch. Darrell has been so kind to let us use his land for so long.
LD, this is what I think, too.
Good advice, Jo. I will work on that smile. We love you, too, and I'll keep in touch. Hopefully we won't be bidding against each other for the same van. :D
Thank you for that, Dragonfly. Me, too.
Thanks, Jim and Gayle. Things will look up.
Cheap Guy, my sentiments exactly.
Thanks, Pam! I like cheers.
Thank you, Maureen. I will!
Best of luck to both of you. Looking forward to following you on this new journey, will be interesting to see where you go in the Prius.
Take care,
Tina
Awe shucks, I hate when stuff like this happens but I guess it all part of life, wishing you both all the best. Roxie, live large in your little car exploring all you can and please bring us along. Your adventure awaits you. I hate to be the one to mention the “T” word (tent) but it is something to think about. It would give you a little walking around room that you might crave on those rainy days, just a thought. Sending positive, happy thoughts out to ya’ll.
Life can be a pain in the ass and a hurtin' to the heart, but life keeps on keeping on. I am so sorry things between you and Annie shifted. I loved the quote shared by Soaring Sun... so true! I am sure your new path will be anything but boring! Sending good vibes your way!
PS.... if you are going to be in the car, I hope you get Jake!!!! Thinking of you! Geri and Chuck
As usual, I'm the last one to the 'party'. Like everyone else, I had to read your blog a few times before what I suspected you were saying finally sunk in my thick skull. And, like most others, I was surprised.
All I can do is wish you, and Annie, all the best in whatever you each choose to do. I'm glad you are going to continue blogging and I'll be adding your blog to my sidebar toute suite (a little French lingo).
Take care.
Changes can be hard but sometimes turn out good too. I hope that this change brings some good things your way. Sorry to hear about it. I hope too that Annie starts a blog. Would love to keep hearing from both of you.
Roxie, if you want to travel in the Prius, maybe a nice tent would be great for you !!
Wishing you all the best !!! Keep your chin up.
I LOVE what SoaringSun wrote! May you both continue on POSITIVELY!! You are both--TERRIFIC!! Please feel free to contact me anytime.(you have my #) Sincerely,Dixe
Oh my, what a huge change. I will miss hearing about your adventures together but life is what it is and you have to follow your heart even when it hurts so much. I know you will be missing your fur babies so here are about an an thousand hugs to use as needed.
Please, both of you keep us updated. Oh heck, here are another thousand hugs, just from me to you.
You can go to the summer Rubber Tramp Rendezvous and get lots of tips and support during this transition. details here: http://cheaprvlivingblog.com
Of course, all your readers are wishing you the very best.
Aw crap. I'm so sorry this is happening. Take care.
Wow. I don't know what to say because this is hard to gauge. My best educated guess is that this is a bitter/sweet thing happening. Ultimately I wish you both the best and would still hope to cross paths in our future travels.
It's so hard to find good humor these days, and you guys always quack me up!
Thanks, Tina!
Harriett, you said the T word AND the R word. Thanks for the idea, though; I hadn't thought of it.
Thanks, Geri. I like that quote, too. That's the littlest possible home.
Rick, this party is kind of a dud, and the music sucks. Thanks for wishing us well, and thanks for the boost on your sidebar!
It's true, SierraSue. And, you said the tent word, too! I'll start out with a cool thing Desert Diva found for a Prius and go from there.
Thank you, Dixie! It was great meeting you two, and travelers always cross paths again.
Thanks, Contessa. I will miss them. Hugs are good, though.
I'm thinking about doing just that, since I may be in Flag by June. Good idea, Linda.
Me too, Allison. Thank you.
Steve, the thing about pain is it feels SO SWEET when it stops. Then you're just bitter. Thank you for good wishes. I hope we stay absurd separately!
So glad you are going with the car adventure, it will be awesome! You can always go to another option later if it doesn't work out, but this way you will never have to wonder "what if I had done that."
The circumstances may be unfortunate, but the outcome will be an adventure like no other. I hope we meet up sometime "down the road."
Zoe
Thanks for the encouragement, Zoe! I hope we meet up, too. And, why shouldn't we?
Dang, sorry to hear this. Hate to see anyone go through a break-up. Wishing you all the best on this new journey and looking forward to meeting you "on the road" someday. Kris
Thanks, Kris. See you out there!
Doors close and doors open and sometimes they are full of laughter and sometimes full of tears. But it's still a door and a journey to take. You got this Roxanne. I'm sorry for the pain and the hurt, but it seems like you have a realistic handle on things. Best of luck and looking forward to the new adventures!
I like that, Morgan. I got this.
Sorry to hear this news Roxi. I know you will each find the path that you need to be on.
FYI - I'm on the CA coast but will be south of Flagstaff in the Mountainaire and/or Williard Springs areas by this weekend (12th or so). If you want support, someone to hang with/near, Ghirardelli chocolate, etc. just holler. Plan to be there until about June1st.
Best wishes to you both,
Jeanne (and Riley)
Man, this news sucks...but I know with your wit and positive attitude we will be hearing from you from your new adventure....please keep us in your thoughts too, we love your blog.
Hi Jeanne! It would be great to see you again. I don't think I'll be in Flag by then, though. Except chocolate...
Thanks, Anon. A positive attitude, and you're half-right about the wit.
I'm sure this decision was not made lightly by either of you...take your time to figure out the new path. I think I could live out of my ford ranger with my camper shell but not sure I could do it in a Prius..but then again...
All the best to you & Annie as you go your separate ways in search of new horizons, new adventures, & new beginnings. I have personally done it many times in the past & despite the cloudy gray days it has always turned out for the better each time....AL.
I just plain didn't want to accept what I was reading. Life can really twist itself around. Wishing you so many good wishes on this new journey.
I always hoped to cross paths with both of you. Perhaps I will still do so. If you get to the San Francisco Bay area, we have parking, a spare bed, shower, and coffee.! Dogs wlcome.
Your wonderful sense of humor will hopefully guide you through this "situation." All the best to both of you...don't let all those good times slip away while you embrace change.
Box Canyon Mark...
Well, here it is several days later, May 11th . . . Obviously I don't get around much in Blogland.
My dear departed Dad was a man of few words. When I went through difficult times and transitions, he would remind me, "Change is good." I thought he was wrong. But looking back, from the long view, I realize he was right. Change may look bad when we are in it, but later the good can be seen. Best wishes to both of you. Sue
Thanks, Sue. It seems hard to imagine at some moments, but I believe your dad.
Good advice, Mark. Thanks.
That sounds wonderful, Merikay! Thank you for that offer.
Word, Sandie. I experienced a similar denial for a while.
Thank you, Al. My head believes you.
AFCG, it's yet to be seen if I can. So far, I've been soaking in hospitality. But, Suanne did it, so I know it's humanly possible. Ducks? Don't lay down any bets yet.
I sure don't have anything deep and profound to say except just that I'm wishing you happy times ahead.
