Cheryl encouraged me out of my funk and into cleaning Spud up. Poor Spud has been in a desert sandy funk, too.
And, lookee what I got her!
There are varying degrees of privacy available, depending on what you zip open or closed.
The Habitent is rain-resistant, I'm told.

I'm sorry, Phil. Looks like this stance wasn't your father's fault after all. |
Lark. Lark!Lark!Lark!Lark! |
We toured Riverbend while we were here. So THIS is where they're keeping the Rio Grande. Nice resort on the river.
For fun, check out La Paloma's website - that's my pic! |

Interesting. Definitely not stealth camping.
Holy hell, that turns your car into a house!
...okay, a smallish house. That's really a tent. But still! I'm wishing they made them for Saturn wagons, now.
Good I saw it here first. Otherwise I would have fallen out of the car: WTH is that?
There are always someone making a business out of other peoples needs! Never thought that a tent like this even exists.
But it's not stealthy anymore. Maybe an idea for the producer to make it in camouflage colour? :))
Don't forget to put it away before you drive off.
Nice photo, BTW. Nice to get published.
It was wonderful to see you again, and to meet Cheryl and Lyn. Lyn's rig is definitely droolworthy.
Oh and that should fit right in at a Walmart parking lot.
That is an amazing contraption. Never seen one before. Love TorC. Had great times there.
Glad you are well.
The Tiger factory is about ten minutes from my home. Those are the Range Rovers of truck RVs.
Photos of those are like RV porn.
Your tent-thing is new to me... I keep scrolling back to look at it again. Are you sure you don't have a compost toilet in there somewhere? How long does it take to set up? Does it fold up fairly compact? I know, I know... all these questions....
Here's what I think - that tent is to die for!!!! If there had been such a thing 10 years ago I would have kept my SUV.
Having said that, I love my van (and you'll love yours too). Having said that, I love your MPG.
What a cool little invention! I think you're going to have quite the adventure in that setup. I see great things happening for you down the road. I'm excited for you! Just remember it's okay to take your time getting there. One damn day at a time. :)
Ok I'm the dumb one. I don't get it. You lay down in the back of the car to sleep. I get that but what's the stand up thing for?? It's a tent so you can leave your trunk lid open and have screening? Or????????? I think I need a tour and maybe some private lessons.
Oh my, do you sleep sort of standing up?
The habitent is very cool. As is T or C!
Nice mammatus clouds in pic #4, ifImaybesobold.
Sweet butt tent, and interesting stance.
Ive seen tents similar to this one on line. They also have the ones you put on top of a truck bed. Maybe I should give up on the van and buy a stinkin truck. There are more trucks around than vans. Enjoy the added room.
I guess it would at least keep you dry if you slept with your feet at the tent end!
Glad you got out and are trying to get out of the funk. I guess we will need you to demonstrate the tent.
I went to look at this tent and they only seem to make them for a Prius I thought maybe I could use one on my car but sleeping standing up wouldnt work. Could get hurt falling out the back of the car.
Cool tent! We met up with Lyn and her pups a couple weeks ago in Silver City. Really liked her new Tiger.
Lol, Jo. I haven't seen them for other models. Don't think I'd care to fall out the back of anything, either. My vote is to use whatever will get you where you want to be and what you want to do.
Karen, I could do that, with Cheryl's help. Sort of a tutorial. Imagine sitting/lying in the back of a Prius with the hatch up. Now imagine wanting more privacy and rain protection, so you throw a tent over the whole thing. That's pretty much what's going on.
Rick, it does claim a little water resistance, and it uses the Prius' gutter where the hatch meets the car body. You're saying only my feet would get wet, though, aren't you?
Haha Gaelyn! Would you believe that stance was not posed?
Rob, watch your mouth! I'm glad to know what they're called, because I don't think I've ever seen them before.
Both of those things, Cyndi!
Like a horse, Judy? Har! No, not so much. I guess I would sleep the same way I would with the hatch down, only spaciouser.
Sherry, you do need an up-close tour. When can you be here? You've got it right. I leave the hatch open for more space and ventilation, but now I can have a cathedral ceiling instead of worming my way around the bed/back area.
Brenda, I read this last night and decided that was my new mantra. One damn day at a time!!
It's pretty cute, isn't it Kim? It will definitely add a comfort factor.
Sharon, the composting toilet is sold separately - maybe later. It takes maybe five minutes to set up (less with two people). Easier than a tent, because you don't pound stakes into the ground. It rolls up to fit in your glove box.
Thanks, Rodney. It's funny you describe them that way, because I took a surreptitious shot of it on the street, and thought to myself "porn stash."
Sandie, what's your favorite part about TorC?
Jan, ALL those things. Yes, if I felt audacious, I might pop that baby on in the Walmart parking lot. But, I'd probably close up before I went to sleep there. Or drove away...probably.
Sue, it's always fun seeing you. I'm glad we could all get together.
Camouflage! Perfect, Bea! No one would even notice then! I guess I should paint Spud camo colors for the same reason, but I could get into trouble on the road, what with other cars not noticing me and my butt tent.
Right, Kate? What will I do with all that space?? I wish they talked about other compatible car models, too.
Colleen, you're saying I'd be conspicuous? What if I hung a sign "Nothing to See Here!"?
Hey, Gayle, I was in Silver City a couple weeks ago! Why didn't you wave? I would have noticed a Tiger, though.
This link gives a view of a gallery of shots with the habitent. Mhttp://www.habitents.com/gallery/#
My view on the habitent is that it gives one a larger "privacy space" to attend to those "daily tasks of living," as well as provide privacy and lots of ventilation. I definitely think it's worth the $$.
It certainly is an "eye-catcher!"
PreCISEly!
Oh wow, now you can moon the moon! Awesome! But no, we don't need pics of that...
Poor Phil. Genetic stance huh?
thought about you when i seen this http://www.golsn.com/listings/recreational_vehicles/rvs-campers/3431645.html
Cindy, that is a cutie patootie! That is just the sort of thing I'll be after once I get my wheels back under me. Thank you!
Cyn, I haven't actually seen that stance on Phil since his toddlerage, but I recognized it immediately. And, yes. the Moon has been warned.
I've seen anything like that. Is it something you came up with or was it designed that way?
Darn, guess I should have stuck around TorC a couple more days. Would have loved to see you all. I was in a travel mood at the time.
Beware the mammatus! Seriously. They are caused by roiling air on the underside of thunderstorms. We meteorologists think they are neato because they are from violent weather. They are a sign of a strong thunderstorm, so you should beware when you see them. And yes, men gave them their name.
Butt tent, LOL. I did a test camp in my Subaru wagon and found it hard because of the short headroom. Can't imagine doing it in a Prius. But I've heard it works for some - maybe people who are shorter than I am.
