Don't be fooled by these fineries. This baby is completely off-grid. It's off-off-grid. It's okay. It's how I roll, when I'm not rolling.
I wasn't looking for this, but it was looking for me. It was market-weary, having been there for two years, and I was already road-weary, having been there not very long at all. It was a foreclosure, and being offered for a price that made some friends urge me to buy it on the spot. So, I offered half.
You know those outrageous ideas that don't feel outrageous, and the hard things that are completely easy, and the rough roads that smooth out ahead of you?
My agent is Marie Lee, and she made everything super-easy. I'd definitely use her again.
Assuming all goes well (and I always do), I'll close on Monday.
I won't be wintering here this year! I've got a beautiful beach in mind, I just don't know which one. Or, maybe a lovely desert. The world is my Spud-tent.

I think this is a really good idea and glad you went for it. I have some land near Magdalena next to Riley. To be able to park and stay put for a while in your own little heaven will be nice.

OMG! It's like a Hogan! Does it fast east? Who cares? When you get it you will be a Hogan Hero for finding this treasure! I LOVE IT!!!! You could even park spud in it and sleep in spud if you felt - well, "spudsick" at times! Awesome. I'm quackin out loud I'm so happy for you.

Besides the gorgeous views, the solitude, the cuteness of the living space--the beauty of this is that you will have no mortgage. A mortgage is what keeps most people stuck in one place and one lifestyle. Bravo for getting it right!

It's cute, 'cept I draw the line at the wooden toilet seat. Don't get me wrong. I'm a woodworker. Love the stuff. Just not when it comes to toilet seats. If you need some warmth, burn that sucker.

I'm with Bob on the toilet seat. Those wood ones give me the heebie jeebies. They're just......weird. At least i know I'm not the only wood toilet seat hater out there. :)
Congrats!! Datil was one of our absolute fav places in NM. It felt like the true Wild West out there. Interesting, diverse people and beautiful scenery. Very happy fr you!

Hey, a wood stove will keep a small place like that plenty warm if you stock up on wood. Just wonderring about in and out access in the winter. I assume it snows?? I Love it. Sue, I may not be able to resist disclosing. It is a dirt road, and winter access is a big question mark. I don't think they get heavy snows from a snowy-location perspective. I've read 32" in a season, but it gets warm enough during the day that the sun may melt that off. Spring thaw may also be a consideration for the road condition. I'm actually thinking about gas, because people come and split that for you.

Brenda and Bob, you're making me LOL! What's the deal with the toilet seats? Is it that you see the wood? Aren't most toilet seats made of wood and painted, or something? I'll tell you what I won't tolerate, and that's a toilet seat that has cracked. Oh no sir, not sitting there.

It does look pretty great, Contessa. There was a problem getting in (which is probably why it had not been bought yet), and I was prepared for the possibility that there was mold or leakage and I'd have to walk away. But, no. Yay!

Tons of congratulations! I see you fell in love with the Datil area, just like I did. As you well know, our land there is MY "at peace" place. With our family issues this year, it doesn't appear that we'll get to Datil this year (which is beyond suck-y), but hopefully we'll finally be able to meet up, if we get there early enough next year...meaning before it gets too cold for you. Although you wouldn't believe how beautiful it is out there when it snows...and since it IS New Mexico, the sun comes out darn near every day. Even at 32 degrees, if the sun's out, all I need is a sweatshirt & light jacket. Woo hoo for you!

If you need anyone to come out and "house sit" let me know, looks perfect to me, even in the winter months I could handle that. Some blankets, nice solars on the roof, all sides, great battery storage, lots of wood, you would be fine!

Is that a YURT? I researched them because our son's best friend has 2 1/2 acres up in the pinyon forest above us. HOWEVER, county ordinances prohibit them. I LOVE IT~ And, all that land!~ WOW! You truly have a good deal! Most yurts come with a compost toilet, but yours looks like a regular one? Excellent!!!
