Tonight, before I fall asleep, I will remind myself where I am. I've been on the road with a mission lately, and now I'm just back to relaxing.
Datil turned cold and gray while I was there without heat, and cheered itself right up on my way out of town. The good part was rain.
I'm back in T or C for a while.
Staying overnights in the cabin was good; it helped me see clearly what needs to happen next. [It's a bed.] My driveway is bad - too bad for me to drive - and I'm stuck at how I would get it from wherever the delivery person left it into the cabin. Shadowmoss suggested a portable bed, and that would solve the "getting it inside" problem, but it doesn't quite solve my craving for coziness. Oh well, I'll let that one simmer itself done.

I got a futon mattress, pretty high end, and it came in a manageable size box highly compressed. It is very comfortable with memory foam on top.
I'm baffled -- if your driveway is too bad for you to drive, how do you get there?

Buy an Aerobed. It is a fancy air mattress and so freaking handy and I have had one for years. Love it and sleep like a baby. If it gets cold though put a quilt, comforter or wool blanket on it before you put the sheets on it..

I second croshayallday's suggestion. I slept on an Aerobed all my tenting days, and slept better there than I did in my big fancy temperpedic back in the house. I agree it needs a blanket on it, but also underneath, as the floor can cool the air inside.
I share your same need for a cocoon, as I can't sleep out in the open. If it were me, I would pitch a nice tent inside until you come up with a better solution. Even now, with the Winnie, sometimes I miss my tent. ;-)
Suzanne and Croshay, it sounds like the brand Aerobed is what you would go for, and not some fly-by-night "Air-oh-bed" brand? I know what you mean about insulating an air mattress; I froze TO DEATH one night on a nakedly-sheeted one.
Betty, lunch was THE best part, then rain. Lunch helped a lot. Now I'm warm, and that helps, too. :o)
Renee, my driveway has an unnavigable part in the middle, so I park nearer the road and walk in.
Mary, that sounds kinda warm and comfy. You think I could drag it a few hundred feet? I mean, it doesn't have to be fast. I have all day.

Layer cake: tarp, Aerobed, memory foam topper, flannel sheets - comforter for icing. Adjust recipe as weather warms...... The bed isn't the only thing you'll want to get to the cabin so maybe a sled or a wagon with big tires that you can pull that hundred feet? Maybe put load on top of Spud, slam brakes on at end of driveway and see how far it flies past the front of the car? passport potash.....punny!
Jodee! That's brilliant! See, these ideas are why I ask the questions. A wagon, or a dolly, or something like that. The Spud trebuchet makes me laugh, too.
The issue I've always had with an aerobed is that they are expensive, and one pinprick (or cat claw snag) and the entire thing is gone. The one I showed, especially in the queen size, lets you replace the relatively cheap air mattress if it deflates. YMMV
Yeah, I have a red wagon, aka Radio Flyer wannabe, and I got it so move things from point a to point b. You might want something with bigger tires to negotiate the ruts better. Maybe a garden wagon?
A garden wagon sounds perfect. Yeah, I get what you're saying about the air mattress.
I think a garden wagon would work well... four wheels, sides, a drop down end. Steven Ballee' had one at his boondocking place. Very handy. You should find someone to grade the drive for you and throw gravel down. Or maybe that is more than you want to do with it.
I vote for the aero bed. Don't they have those that actually have frames to keep you up off the floor like a regular bed?
Or strategically invite a few friends for lunch on the day of delivery of a regular bed.

Air mattresses are wonderful! Chuck and I had one for over a year and loved it! We covered it well to protect it from dogs who love to remake our bed to suit them... 3 fitted sheets over 2 Mexican blankets worth of protection! That should cat proof it as well! We gave up that air mattress because some nice person offered us an almost new Beautyrest mattress for free. We have had the mattress just over a year and have been considering going back to Air! The air mattress will deflate a bit due to temp changes, humidity changes etc and you know Chuck and I are not lightweights! But when you have a good air mattress under you, having to add a bit of air every week or so is worth the effort! I promise!
You really found it that comfortable, Geri? I'll have to consider this further. That much protection would also insulate you from the cold air, too, I imagine.
Yes, it WAS that comfortable! It wasn't cheap $150+! But it had his side and my side that inflated separately so we didn't jostle each other around as we tossed and turned at night. That was important! Both separate mattresses sat upon another separate full size mattress under us. VERY comfortable, but alas, that was also the problem.... it raised us too high and we had only inches to spare from our pillows to the cupboards built in above us. RV's have cupboards in the weirdest places! We banged our heads more than once and that is the only reason we gave up that air mattress!
So it was kinda like a Sleep Number bed. Okay, I can see how that might be good.
Yeah, but A LOT CHEAPER than a sleep number bed by several hundred bucks!
Do they make a manual pump for them? Think I will check this out for us.
