Hanging-fruit ("jumping") cholla. They don't really jump. Really! |
Phainopepla. Just like it's spelled. |
I spent an afternoon in Ajo - always a pleasure. The plaza alone is worth a couple of hours. More if you're slow or lazy or need to eat.
I stopped for the night at Buckeye Regional Park. It was a Saturday night, and so the park was full. I didn't linger there this morning, but set out for exotic gas station coffee. Because I was parked so far from the bathroom, I used it all night long.
My GPS kept routing me on I-10, so I resisted all day long. It finally sighed and let me take 60 to 70 to Safford, Arizona. Beginning at Gonzales Pass, I was saying things like "Great Googly-moogly!" and "Zounds!" You may say similar things; some favorites are "Good Golly!"or "Wowwie!" or "Gosh!" Feel free to use any of these. I couldn't stop exclaiming long enough to take death-defying photographs, so you may have to Great Google.
Always looking for new ways to thwart toilet paper theft. This seems foolproof. |
I knew I was taking a risk, not phoning ahead to Essence of Tranquility, but that's how I fly. I was flying high today, so got my favorite campsite (next to the bathroom, guaranteeing I won't need it all night).
This is not the bathroom - don't even JOKE about it. |
When I'm on the road in Spud, I can't stop myself from checking thrift stores. In Ajo, I also shopped at the discount grocer, which means I am now sleeping with six jars of mayonnaise and a 10 X 14 oil painting.

:) Great!
The six jars of mayo do not sound like good sleeping companions. You must REALLY be enjoying your cabin if you're leaving the warmth & heading back that way. Wave at Datil for us on the way through...
Renee
The mayo fetish concerns me. Have you spoken to anyone about this? Maybe a MGLBT group?
Oh thanks, now I have that damn song stuck in my head! I so relate to the conspiracy going on between bathroom location and bladder urge.....often times joined by the sound of running water. The desert pics are incredible!!!! That toilet paper holder tells a very strange story. And I can't joke about something I have no idea what it is, well not much anyway. Is there plexiglass over the top??
So you did learn to juggle or maybe a person like you already knows how. :O)
Bob
Bob, some people like me DO know how to juggle, but I don't. :o(
Jodee, we got a long way to go, and a short time to get there... or is it the other way around? The pic is one of the hot springs pools, and there's no plexi over the top - just the surface of the water. This may be the only pool without water gushing into it from above.
David, the MLGBT group may be just the ticket, although it should be MLGBTA to protect my privacy.
Renee, I'm getting poor reports from the direction of the cabin. I may not return so quickly.
Pictures are fantastic, had a nice clear day for them is see. And of course no picture of your new oil painting not nice to keep us in suspense. But six jars of mayo hmmm
Lots of people passing through Superior these days looks like their trying to bring it back to life, haven't been there in ages must be time for tour.
I guess it would have been logical to post a picture of the picture. It didn't occur to me.
I didn't stay long in Superior; I like to pass through business districts of old towns, but the hot springs were calling me.
Really enjoy Organ Pipe NM ... wouldn't mind being there right now, in fact. Ajo, too. Great restaurant there, but I can't remember the name of it.
I kept hearing about a great burger restaurant, but I can't remember the name, either.
Beautiful photos, Roxi, and you tickle my funny bone every time you write..:-)
Nah, the one I'm talkin' about is a small Mexican restaurant, with really good local food. Guess we'll just have to go back there and look for ourselves!
I just made an order on Amazon from your site. Hope it will help. Love your blog.
Thank you, Gw! I appreciate that very much!
Nickie, I must not have that on my radar. Yes, go there and report back.
Thank you, Rhodalyn! I aim to tickle.
The photos of Organ Pipe and Ajo are stunning. They are two of my favorite places. We usually end up somewhere off Darby Well Road. We are considering Safford also, but wondering if it's cold. I'm sure you'll keep us posted.
Definitely colder in Safford than in Organ Pipe or Ajo.
Has the theft of toilet paper become so great a problem as to justify that??
What's next? Some sort of device to limit how much can be taken off the roll in one sitting?
:)
