I like Roswell. It's a city, but not a huge one, so there are lots of conveniences without lots of congestion. A city's libraries draw me.
I'm losing track of what lake park goes with what town.
Brantley Lake ➔➔ Carlsbad (caverns, more or less)
Bottomless Lakes ➔➔ Roswell (UFO museum)
Sumner Lake ➔➔ Fort Sumner (The REAL grave of Billy the Kid)
Santa Rosa Lake ➔➔ Santa Rosa (Blue Hole)

Roswell doesn't give the impression that it's a desert town. I don't know its water status, but there are a lot of big trees that indicate a more abiding water source than occasional irrigation.

The state parks are great, and I'm losing details. Lakes! Lots of lakes. The Bottomless Lakes aren't. Brantley, Sumner, and Santa Rosa lakes are created by dams on the Pecos River. This completes the informative segment of today's post. And, today's post.

Roxanne, if you are still in Roswell, and you are currently a "cheatin' vegan," don't miss the Green Chili Cheeseburger at Big D's Downtown Dive. I would detour through Roswell for a chance at that cheeseburger all over again!
I love that tree of course all those neat tiles too. Looks like a place I really need to visit this summer.
Suzanne, I missed out on Big D's this time, but will remember it for next time. That's high praise from a cattleman's daughter! I did try one in San Antonio (Buckhorn), but was only whelmed.

Just picked up the 90 year old MIL from Roswell yesterday to bring her up here to Ruidoso for a family reunion. I love Roswell as the perfect size "town", but have still not seen the Tree. Definitely a must-see on our next time through - and of course all the lakes and their designated specialnessess.....

In case you're up that way, Silverton, Colorado has one of the cosiest libraries; good wifi too. They also have a broad selection of books for sale...cheap too.
