We spent nearly a week in Datil, because Wolfgang wanted and offered to make some improvements to the cabin. Wanted. If I wasn't swoony before, that would have done it.

We were admiring this little guy, when another, larger lizard of another apparent species approached. "OMG! Godzilla v. Mothra!" There was running and hiding. The lizards did stuff, too.
This is big poo. |
The roads to my cabin are nowhere near RV-ready, so we split our time between the cabin and Datil Well Campground. Spud is Datil-road-ready.
Now we're somewhere else!
My guy will be leaving soon, and so you can expect me to be a sad quack. I'd rather be right than bereft.

Not W. Hahaha
I read somewhere that South Monticello was closing down for the winter in October. It is a nice place.
Barney, where did you read that? We spend winters at South Monticello and Caballo. That would break my heart!
Love the sunset (sunrise?) photo. Love New Mexico (although Montana isn't a bad place to hang for a while). It does have the benefit of grandchillun. Well, that's a benefit most of the time anyway. We're in a valley between two mountain ranges, so miss both sunrises AND sunsets while we're here.

I have a theory about this rumor, based on flimsy evidence and half-baked reasoning. ReserveAmerica no longer takes reservations after September 30. This fits with my experience of Elephant Butte parks, which is that there are only first-come-first served sites in the fall/winter. Also, October is primo camping time here, so closing the parks would be cra-cra.
The lizards are beautiful, and very funny :-) Hope the W man will be back soon, I'm sure there's lots more fun to be done around the cabin!
I'll even welcome him back if he doesn't repair anything, Jodee.
It's nice to have someone do repairs. Love your pictures, not sure about the 10 min. tie up, I guess you can use it for horses these days.
That's about right, Jo. Or dogs.
I called Elephant Butte S.P. today and they said the rumor isn't true. Whew!
Great! Thanks for putting that to rest!
I want to get back to NM, but crazy heat between here (Pacific Coast) and there (say, Jemez Mountains) sort of has me trapped. Rats.
