When sitting still moves you forward...

... a Koan Brothers film.*

[*"I almost never know what she's talking about."]

I've been doing most of my traveling in my head lately, and getting great mileage. I've been in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico since Christmas Day, when I hurtled down off the mountain just ahead of the big storm. Since then, I've been offered hospitality and jobs (sometimes together), with extra servings of fuzzy, furry, and feathery friends.

Pussywillow Starshine. "Willow," informally

I've been enjoying the comforts of lovely homes, while Spud has enjoyed the comfort of driveways and garages. Still, we were hankering for just a teensy adventure.

We fired up our engines and headed. We squinted into canyons...

...gazed across the mighty Rio Grande...

...moseyed down to the bank, and looked right ...

... and left ...

... and right again...

... and left one more time...

... here's a riddle:
Q: When is a Ford not a Ford?

A: When you ford in a Toyota.

Spud and I felt like crossing the Rio Grande was enough adventure, and more than enough corny humor. We continued on, tires and feet a little wet, and feeling like Lewis and Clark.

Lewis and Clark

Next we'll stay in town some more, with a new crew. I'm living the life of a pet-setter. There's a gap in my "work" schedule for a week this month, so who knows what might happen then? No, I'm asking - do you know what might happen?

Stuff and shenanigans! My favorite!

LOL, Swankie. I'll keep their dander and saliva to myself. :)

Good to see the critters have kept you (relatively) out of trouble for awhile. Toyota-ing the Rio Grande seems like a good use of one's free time :-) Love the fence post art. Stay warm!!

Ach du lieber!! What courage! When do we get to see video?

And where *is* that ford? Eggbert is eager to give it a try.

Superb cat picture!! But then, is there any other kind?

Am heading to Death Valley. Rumor has it this is the time of year. Have you been there? If so, any suggestions for sight-seeing? What about down hwy 83 from Sonoita, AZ to Canelo? Am thinking of exploring it near end of March.

MFH, Eggbert would shine at this ford in southern Truth or Consequences. He might not even need to hold his nose. About Sonoita, I have been there once, but it was on a reluctant Bar Tour of Southern Arizona shortly after we took the keys from our over-exuberant guide. That's down Patagonia way, right? My own favorite German loves that state park, if that's any help at all.

Jodee, there's nothing like a cold snap to turn an aloof kitty into a lap kitty. Of course, I could always turn the heat up, but then the kitty disappears!

GLD - An over-exuberant guide? That sounds like a tale to hear. Is it on here? If it passes muster with another German that's good enuff for me. Thanks!

The Good Luck Duck said...

Ha! No, I don't think I ever told that story here.

Yes, Germans are quite discriminating, so we should trust you. That's what he told me, anyway.

Yes, well, we work hard at honing our gruff exteriors. But one of my collectors (from art gallery days) who was married to one described him as sickeningly sentimental. I nodded sagely and thought, "And proud of it!" But please tell him I said Danke Schon for his vote of confidence.

He replies, "Bitte."

I once camped at the Rio Grande where it is still small - in Colorado. Have the greatest memories of it. Down at Las Cruces the river often was dry when we crossed over. Have a book of 1949 written by Laura Gilpin. "River of Destiny". In those days the river valley was full of farming full of life and full of water.

The Rio Grande was more fascinating to me as a child than even the Mississippi. I still love how so much of it is accessible to the public.

Weeell, that's one good thing about living this dream, you sometimes don't know what's gonna happen next. There's nothing more exciting!
