Long-timers agree: this is the lowest they can remember Elephant Butte Lake. Others have been telling corny jokes to raise its spirits.
This was my first time at Bluewater Lake State Park; it was worth the wait. Pinyon-scented air, spectacular lightning storms, a bald eagle sighting, and dump stations. Spud and I zipped on ahead, leaving my traveling companion to enjoy the latter.

I love Bluewater Lake State Park. Lots of different kinds of camping areas and I never had a problem finding a dry camping site. I always hoped to see the horses roaming around the park, too, and sometime got my wish. I'll never forget the day my mom died, I had two families of horses camped out in my site all day. I felt like I was being looked after. AND a working dump station. That really makes a difference. Not too far to Grants, where there's a Walmart. Bluewater will probably be one of my "go-to" places during the hot summers in TorC. :)

Is that last pic the Rio Grande all dried up and growing vegetation? And if you get to Farmington DO NOT miss the Bolack Museum.
I've only been to Elephant Butte once, but that is crazy low!! NM definitely needs a few good rainy seasons.
