Ducks meet the best people - Tucson

Cool people are attracted to Tucson like ducks to duck food. We keep meeting them!

Pat plays vintage baseball for the Phoenix Senators. Vintage baseball is like baseball, only nicer. Games last about an hour, which is a fine amount of time to watch sports. If I were going to play a sport (I'm not), I might consider this one (I won't). These folks were all friendly types. They don't have an arbitrator (umpire) anymore, so they just call their own plays. Then they kick dirt on themselves and impugn their own eyesight.

We were the audience, mainly because this wasn't home field for either the Senators or the Bisbee Bees. After the game the players gave us great ideas for seeing Bisbee, including directions from which not to arrive. There will be a tournament in Bisbee April 6 & 7; admission will be used toward renovating the bathrooms in the 100+ year old stadium. And you know that if you're over 100, your plumbing is going to fail.

If you're looking for a team sport but lack the killer instinct, I recommend this one.

Thanks, Pat! That was something we wouldn't have done without your suggestion, and then we would have been sorry. We had a good time meeting you. You're a funny guy!

Grace and SteveThis morning we were lucky enough to meet Grace and Steve, Tucsonans who are preparing to go full-time boondocking! Steve will retire this month and Grace has another couple of years, but there will be no resentment there.

Grace, Annie, and Steve They already boondock when they can, and enjoy the challenges of extreme conservation. Fist bump, you guys.

Grace is an artist who is accomplished in watercolor, but she wanted an artistic outlet that would work with small spaces. Now she does bead embroidery (and it's even more beautiful in person).

Steve is tackling internal combustion, and I'm not talking about our breakfast. They have also outfitted their own RV with solar and the accessories.

Somehow I forgot to ask them what they do for The Man, but they're clearly not focused on that. It was great to spend time with you guys - thank you!

Annie and I might see some petroglyphs tomorrow, but that's not carved in stone.
