We left our heroine (of her own story) portaging in bare feet over pointy rocks. Will she make it to shore? Will she get enough water? Will she ever shower??
Now that my feet have healed, I consider this a good experience. It was also one of those clarifying situations where I understood something completely unrelated to whether or not there was enough water in the lower Rio Grande this season.

We stayed in Big Bend National Park for six hot days, then headed north and up to thermal relief.
