Whaddya get? |
Which way is it?
How many miles?
Anything else I might want to know flying overhead?
YES SIR! You'd want to know which way other things are!
Like north. |
These were all painted silver originally, when General Patton had his men establish this landmark. They were for the benefit of pilots flying over needing to orient themselves.
It wasn't long before this group of rowdy ne'er-do-wells showed up. I don't have a good feeling about this.
L to R: Quincy, Uriah, Thomasina, Zebuluna, Sydney, and Esther. They're probably going to look for their initials, too. |

Is there an arrow pointing the way to Salvation?
wanderoke.blogspot.com
Just follow the paint cans to Salvation.
(the mountain, that is)
Can this be seen from google maps? Any idea as to coordinates?
Oh, and Travelling Companion wanted me to point out she's also the bread winner of the equation.
I 'make' the bread. (i.e. banana) She 'wins' it.
Clearly, these are directions for future alien landings, left by those who came before. If I were in that crowd, I'd be careful. That whole probing thing doesn't sound like much fun at all.
My first thought about the last one was "Liberals that way"
There are some more interesting intaglios around Bouse.
I kind of like this as I am a bit directionally challenged.
General Patton wanted to know how to get to Quartzsite? Well of course he did.
If by "Salvation," you mean "north," then yes! If you mean Salvation Mountain, you just need to get to Niland, CA and you're almost there.
Bob, I couldn't see it on Google maps, sadly, because I get as excited over that as the real thing. If it were still silver we probably could.
You have an undercover +1 TC who also brings home the bacon? You are a man of mystery and luck.
Teresa, there was a circle in the mix that I didn't show, and it would be perfect for a little exploratory craft, like a pod or a Prius. You and Annie with the probing. I wasn't afraid until I saw the size of their handwriting.
Carolyn, the six people walking away? I guess when you get to be our age, liberals look a lot like conservatives - we're all wearing lycra-assisted jeans and sensible walking shoes, and who can tell? I should start mixing it up. Instead of asking strangers "CAKE? or DEATH?" I'll ask them the political thing.
Gaelyn, are they the Blythe intaglios, or something different? I want to see intaglios today, now that I can pronounce them, and I'll take any of them.
You and me, Janie. I said "North is THAT way?"
I know, Sherry. I guess he tanked himself all over this joint back in the day. A nearby road called a "trail" is über wide to allow for tank traffic.
I say QUARTZITE 11 miles. Me and Patton, we're smart.
Military geniuses is what you are.
LOVED this!
Have fun & Travel safe
Donna
Thanks, Donna!
It is amazing what you find in the desert! :) I tell you pilots get to enjoy some interesting things from the sky - I guess. At least I find them interesting from the ground.
I agree! And, I'm about to go find some you-know-whats in the desert myself!
How do you find these things?
Heh, really cool.
Oh to be out west with a rock hammer!! If only....
Thanks, Nomad.
Contessa, people tell us stuff, and if we're lucky, they tell us how to find it.
John, about year with a rock hammer and you could chisel away everything that's not this life.
