It's so gusty here I saw the same monkey fly past three times. I can't remember not sitting here in this chair, so I made a lot of loud standing-up sounds, and we went outside for a lean. East: Why is it so easy to walk? West: Why did we try to walk? We would never have made it home without our sticks to dig into the dirt and row us forward.

Doesn't look windy in the pictures, some bloggers got snowed on today. It's very windy in Denver today, too.

Love those far shots and cloud shadows. I could barely see a couple hundred feet. Now have 6" of white stuff on the ground and more falling. Stay in the low desert.
*gasp* I didn't realise what Patrick looked like on dry land! Now I know one more thing. Yay for me.

The wind in Las Cruces was "mucho icky" yesterday. I posted a pic of entering I-25 on my blog. I'm hoping for some nicer weather (it's Spring Break) and may go to the Good Sam Rally in Phoenix later this week. You can buy a day pass for $10.00!

Do you think that you'll head west again next year? Quartzsite has to be experienced at least once but that wind can be so tiring. We've spent many winters in the southern states , a few out west and the last couple in Florida.Florida (which we weren't too crazy about before -too expensive, too many people ) is winning hands down for nice weather and pretty scenery for a winter location. I'm not too sure if we want to make the long drive west again just to sit in the motorhome because of the wind. Worse for us though because I'm like a sail! :D
I know that you lived in Florida so you might be sick of it but we've been loving it!
I'm just SO observant... I'm wondering about a Harris hawk having a nest in a cactus... that little hole just doesn't seem right... Scroll back up... well, I'll be darned! There's a whole bunch of stuff up there in the crotch of that cactus... duh.... Great pictures... maybe I'll look again and see what else I've missed ;-)

Well, Sharon, I could have been more helpful and put an arrow there, or said "What is this in the crotch of this cactus?" If I want answers, I shouldn't be so vague.
Karen, we actually do like a lot about Florida! Even in the summer, we enjoyed it. I think Florida weather is beautiful in a very consistent, predictable way, and we wanted to experience the Southwest's wild, erratic behavior. Exotic! I'll tell you my favorite parts of Arizona as compared to Florida: I don't mildew, the sky is huge, and sunsets are exquisite. My three favorite parts of Florida, compared to Arizona: the beach, the beach, and mostly, the beach. Plus, the springs and the manatees.
You know, sailors can turn a sail so that they can move into the wind. I don't understand it because it's physics. But, if you outfitted your chair with a sail ... wait, I see technical difficulties, but let me work on it.
Carolyn, there is water very close. The Colorado River is just an UHNH! from here, and farms use it for irrigation. I have to admit that just seeing the green is soothing. But, I've always had green, but I've never had Saharan dunes and palo verde trees and huge, wide-open skies, and saguaros who were sprouts when my great-grandparents were, and archaeological sites, and a whole winter without boots (even in Florida).
The sounds I make are like AAAUURRRRGGGGG!! Only I can hear the pops right now.
Cheryl, your wind looks uglier than ours. Enjoy spring break, and tell us about the rally. And, I second the WalMart and the cheap wine. Sit out that mess.
Thanks, Judy. We have seen hawks very nearby, but don't know what kind. I hope they didn't blow away - that seems like a maladaptive trait, to lay eggs at the exact time the desert becomes mobile.

Gaelyn, I saw someone's snow pictures and it made me so cold we got out Mr. Heaty. Then, my cousins in Flagstaff were completely snowed in, and I was SO GLAD we weren't visiting right then. [Love you guys! Can't wait to visit in the good weather!] Will your snow just fluff away, or do you have to shovel it like a common Northeasterner?

Sherry, I'm glad she does, too. Although Karen, who follows on Facebook, did notice the hole below the crotch (can I say that here?) and suggested it might belong to a woodpecker.
A couple of weeks ago I moved over to a small town close to the Arkansas border and it is so windy here. At times, it reminds me of the desert because of the sound of the wind.
What's so special about the desert to me is the light.
I think constant wind would wear me down like the rocks. It feels like such a lot to fight all the time. Like how I felt in NY in the winter.
Walking..don't miss it until you can't do it.
I was behind a woman in a store yesterday who was practically walking backwards she was so slow. No one tried to hide their annoyance. Because, you know, they had to buy their shampoo & potato chips NOW.

Had to set up in that wind yesterday. I had sand in my nose and ears as well as everywhere else. My weight workout was trying to shut the door, took a real effort! Glad its better today.
Where did your spring weather disappear to? I'm ready for them to come back, so I can enjoy the great outdoors with a nice cold glass of lemonade!!
J&J, does that mean you also had to drive in it?? Yuck either way.
It's still chilly today, but calm again. Maybe turn that lemonade into toddy.

I used to be a foster home for the local Humane Society, but I ended up adopting them all. Cats and dogs alike. Even have two old horses being boarded. :)
Oh wow. Those animals saw you coming. Here she comes - get cute! Did you take in litters, or older animals? We never did the foster home because 1) we could never give them back, and 2) we could never give them back. Were the horses from the Humane Society, too?

Hey Duck, no the horses are a mom and her son, who I bought when they were young. The mom's now 29 and the son 22!
And yeah, I'm a sucker for animals. :)
The cats were all the older unadoptable kind (except by me, of course).
I now have two and am looking at buying a teardrop camper. Along with four dogs, that will be interesting. We'd better all get along, little doggies.
