Remove all doubt.

If I have nothing to say, seems like I oughta say it. Giddyup, we're having a round-up of trivial pursuits today.

Russ, of Russ and Donna, of Travels in Therapy, of Oregon, told me to Google "askew" today.

We used to enjoy Tofutti products, until we read the ingredients. Gross. We're used to studying the labels of most foods, but we were complacent about this brand. Our container admits to 2 grams of trans fats. The website denies any knowledge or recollection of this number, and asks us to define "2." Either way, you can see the nasty partially hydrogenated mess right up there behind "water."

We went geocaching a couple of nights ago. The terrain was tricky, and we thought we'd found a clue from an earlier 'cacher:
Whoever you are, sorry.
A clue of another sort. Hope this all went well, and a solid shout-out from the over-50 set.

Annie's back is out again, so send healing vibes ("vibes" = money) and good thoughts ("thoughts" = narcotics) to her.

If that's your list - Jello ain't vegan and, odds are, the hormone pills aren't either. If it isn't your list, some people need to be more careful with their shopping lists.

The Good Luck Duck said...

Page, you must be under fifty. And, you're right, neigh-ther of those things are vegan.

Morgan Johnson said...

Harmones? they spell things different out west.

The Good Luck Duck said...

I think they say them different, too, Morgan.

Marianne said...

Well, I sure ain't under 50 and I'm SURE I know what that list is for. I also hope everything came out all right. Did you see beavers in the Creek then? Hugs to Annie - sorry all out of narcotics...

The Good Luck Duck said...

...everything came out all right... It's funny because it's true! No, no beavers this time. We'll try again.

I'd send $$$ for Annie's back and drugs too but my thoughts are all askew so I can't do anything!!

Feel better Annie ♥♥

The Good Luck Duck said...

Donna, it's the thought (= drugs) that counts!

O.K. lots of thoughts coming your way now...meanwhile, on another note...that's one big lizard! You could probably barbecue some of those, and they'd be really good! Nice photo of those "blue tag specials"...probably destined to become "top sirloin roasts". Loved the photo of the giant "cactus back blacked eyed beetle"! Not sure if that's the correct name for it, but that's what it looks like to me! You can Google it, if you don't believe me. One final caution, don't walk on Annie's back, unless you throw her in that creek first...then it might be good hydro therapy which is bound to help.

Bug, huh? Just...bug?

Thank you, you lovely Lucky Duck, but I am past 50. Don't look it, don't act it, don't really feel it, but it is a number nonetheless.

heyduke50 said...

trust me... if I really wanted to know something about that list I would askew...

The Good Luck Duck said...

Russ, the thoughts are high-quality, man, thanks! So is the advice, and so is the tricky beetle nomenclature.

Annie, it's... uh... a "cactus back blacked eyed beetle," or so Russ tells me.

Yeah, a number. A big number. I mean, my 50, not yours.

HeyDuke: RIM SHOT!

Well, except for the grape juice I figured they were prepping for their colonscopy. I'm afraid I think a lot like Russ... always checking out the surroundings (this includes animal, vegetable and mineral) as a possible meal. Guess I never considered vegan as a way of life as we pretty much lived off the land (and whatever lived on the land). Lizards? haven't tried that yet.

The Good Luck Duck said...

I thought the same thing, Sharon, and I assumed she was getting white grape juice. I figure we're more likely to run down and catch a prickly pear fruit than a lizard, so avoiding things "on the hoof" won't be a problem for us.

I've been thinking about taking a cooking class. I take this post and the comments as a sign that a cooking class would be a good thing. Now I just have to decide if it should be strickly cooking "on the hoof" stuff or off.

Is that a dung bug?

Sherry said...

Oh Annie - I'm so sorry to hear about your back. That Roxanne is such a slave driver. Why don't you make her pull her share of the load and then you won't have such problems. You poor thing.......I have neither money nor narcotics sadly. I'd like to have both myself and if I did I would definitely share them with you, but I have neigh-thor eith-or.

Glad to hear your vegan diet does not permit grilling lizards, black & whites or bugs. That is a GREAT shot of that sure nuf 6 legged bug.

Next blog I want to read that Annie is better. Got that?

Karen Snyder said...

No drugs or money here, either; but, because I cannot stand not knowing, I think I can remove at least one doubt for you! http://bugguide.net/node/view/386438/bgimage :) Feel better soon, Annie!

Nice lizard! .... Beaver Creek is gorgeous! not much on bugs... love cows and I won't eat 'em.

Vibes to Annie... total bummer...

The Good Luck Duck said...

Well done, Karen! Now, how did you go about finding him? Is it Google's image search? You'll forgive me if I don't remember the Latin, but I think I can remember Pinacate.

Oh Sherry, now how will I blog about that thing you've wanted to know ... well, nothing to be done about it until Annie's better, which could be more than a week or two.

Michelle, I had no idea until Karen found his picture.

The Good Luck Duck said...

Levonne, I definitely think it's a sign. My vote is for "off the hoof," but you'll choose well. Personally, I hate cooking, and I hate classes, so it sounds like perfect hell to me, but I've heard some people enjoy both.

Thanks Carolyn. Yeah, cows are sweet-looking even in the dark, although I've never stopped thinking they're delicious. I'll have the salad, please.

Love the Beaver Creek photo!

If I bothered to read the labels on stuff, I'd miss out on a lot of really great things to eat.

Merikay said...

What if all that is left of us are our shopping lists? Sometimes I find one left behind in a basket at the store....

Good thoughts to Annie .. May her back feel better soon.

Gaelyn said...

I have no money for drugs. Ask the lizard what it eats for a backache. Or boil it into stew with the cactus. You can pull the lizard out later for the no meat version.

Harmone pills? Do they make one more harmonious?

Love the pictures. Those cows look happy!

The Good Luck Duck said...

D&D - great to hear from you! Hope things are great in TX. I suspect they are much, much happier than the cows in the factory farms we've passed. Yuck.

Contessa! You're right - I intended to look into that, but no one was in pain at the time. Okay, I'm getting it.

It is beautiful, Cheryl. And, thank you!

Thanks, John!

Yellow Rose, I've heard that they really do. Not that that will help until the procedure is over.

Gaelyn, that sensible lizard probably doesn't try to walk around on those silly back legs. And, he suggested he wouldn't be happy with the "vegetarian" version of lizard stew, either.

Merikay, that is a sobering and profound thought. Thanks for the good wishes.

Rick, I'm afraid that's absolutely correct. But, in that case, you'd probably already be enjoying actual sour cream and cream cheese instead of Tofutti.

Love the way your mind wanders from one topic to the next! Love the photo of Beaver Creek; have hiked there many a time. So sorry to hear about Annie's back. Total bummer and not lots to do but give it a rest. Backs are a tricky thing! Get well soon Annie!

Thanks, Paint!

Diana said...

I always thought that was a dung beetle, but I don't really know - just thought I'd throw it out there. And it does look like someone was getting ready for a colonoscopy...

¡Vizcacha! said...

It could be, Diana. I do know for certain (don't ask me how) that he's a stink beetle. Now I know that this headstand he's about to do was a prelude to pew.

Terry said...

I have no idea why I'm posting here...
...there are too many folks who don't eat meat.

Sorry to hear about Annie. My thoughts and prayers go out to and for her. God bless you both.

50? How about an upcoming 66?

The Good Luck Duck said...

Haha! Terry, you should be happy - we're leaving more for you!

At 66, you've probably made this grocery list more than once, yeah? Except maybe for the hormone pills, but I'm not judging either way.

Many thanks.
