Roxanne, it has been rumored that you believe you have arranged a spectacular celestial display on your birthday. Is this true?
Yes, Perez, that's true.
No, I'm not Perez, I'm Ed from RV Blogger Digest Monthly.
It felt really important for me to give back to our blog readers. They're the reason we write. The reason we're even being interviewed for TMZ...
No, I'm...
...the reason we get up in the morning and stare at the sun.
That's not really a good...
That's why, instead of raking in presents this year, I am celebrating this prime-number birthday, 51, by giving our readers an...
Uh, 51 isn't actually...
...exclusive viewing of a solar eclipse. Because of limited funds, I have to restrict the viewing to the Yukon, the Northwest Passage, and Greenland.
No, I think...
So, if you happen to be in Albuquerque this Sunday, you are in for a treat! You could also witness my birthday gift to you, an annular (once a year) eclipse, over the Grand Canyon, but that seems prosaic. That link that I said at first, you know, aich tee tee pee colon backslash backslash...
Yeah, you don't have to do that - we've got the link.
...that site has some good ideas about where to see it, if you happen to be a Good Luck Duck blog reader.
But, isn't it true that everyone in the path can see the eclipse?
Well, sure, if they want to crash my party. Look, I'm not stingy, and even if they can't be bothered to come check out the blog, yeah, let 'em look at the sky for all I care. Nevermind that I'm sacrificing two hours of solar power for this shindig.
Thanks so much for talking to me, and I...
Here's a cat:
Wow, nice, so I have to go...
Here's a fat cat:
Heh, that's great, I'll see myself out...
I'll see you at my party! Bring your #14 welder's glass! I'll fill it with sparkling cider.

Solar Eclipse.... My son is taking my little house on wheels to Lake Powell. He is also taking my cameras, tripods, and some expensive filters for the cameras. He is also taking a cooler of beer, steaks, a friend who is a self proclaimed geek. When I asked if I could come he said "aw hell no." I asked him to toast your birthday and he said he will do that for me. Sigh. I resemble cat number two.
Where is my welding hat when I need it??
Chris, it might still be with your party togs from 18 years ago.
Pepper, that just ain't right. Your little wheely house, and you can't go? He better start reading this blog, that's all I have to say.
Here is the information about what an Annular Eclipse commonly called a Ring of Fire, is: Sunday's spectacle isn't your garden-variety solar eclipse: Because the moon is farther away from Earth than usual, the angular size of the lunar disk isn't quite wide enough to cover up the sun completely. Thus, at the peak of the eclipse, a thin ring of the sun's bright photosphere will remain exposed around the
moon's dark circle.
Here is more info about the eclipse : http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/05/18/11746807-how-to-see-the-eclipse-anywhere?lite&ocid=ansmsnbc11
Wait, first the moon is super-big, then it's super-small? And they say I have mood swings.
Aw, I'm sorry I'm going to miss your birthday AND the eclipse. I'm in Seattle and the weather forecast for the weekend is clouds and rain. Bleah. Thank God I'll be back in New Mexico on Tuesday. Will you still be in Albuquerque then? I'm flying in that day. Are you heading down to TorC anytime soon? We (me, Steve, various VanDwellers and WGS folks) are waiting for you there. Be careful. It is easy to get sucked into the vortex in several places in New Mexico.
I, too, will miss both the eclipse and your shindig, being in NJ. Bummer on both counts! I can, however, snuggle up to your blog at some point and see how much ya'll enjoyed it.
Sue, hopefully you won't actually miss my birthday so much as you won't be nearby that day. In all other areas, it is simply May 20. We're still around Sedona, but Albuquerque is dead-center on the path, so blog readers are free to head that direction for the sky festivities.
Yellow Rose, come on back with a pint of Häagen-Dazs and see how things went.
A Ring of Fire.....
......that's not so rare. You see, I have hemorrhoids and....
What? You say it is a Ring of Fire Eclipse? Well, let me tell you sweetie, the other ring of fire will eclipse your eclipse as far as getting one's attention.
However, I'll wish you a Happy Birthday in advance for the 20th if you'll wish me a Happy Birthday in advance for the 23rd.
Happy Birthday, and may all the many years you have left show you great beauty, shower you with great love, and keep you healthy.
Hoo boy, Terry, sounds like we all need to watch this thing with Preparation E in stock.
That's a very nice birthday wish. Thank you for that! And, a very satisfying and happy birthday to you next Wednesday!
I'm sure hoping the smoke from the fires doesn't ruin all our chances of at least a glimpse down here in the valley. I even have my eclipse glasses that I ordered for your birthday. Have a great day.
Thanks for scheduling the birthday eclipse. In honor of your birthday, I took the liberty to arrange for a little extra show, just to celebrate your "BIG NUMBER" birthday!
In the early morning hours of Saturday, there will be a really BIG rocket shooting up into the sky over Florida, and anybody that wants to can look up and see it flaming it's way towards space.
Also, just for you, on June 5-6 Venus will transit across the sun and be visible. This is the only time in our lifetime that we can see it, so better watch that for sure! Happy "BIG NUMBER" Birthday!
Grand Canyon will be an excellent place to view the eclipse. I even bought a solar filter for my camera as a birthday present from you to me.
Happy Birthday! I'll be looking at the sun with you somewhere.
Well happy early birthday. Not sure what to think about a solar eclipse as a birthday celebration. Is the universe trying to tell you something? Since you got a present for Gaelyn, is mine in the mail? I haven't gotten it yet.
Wow, Jim & Sandie, the smoke must be crazy where you are! We get wisps of it here and there, but our skies are Arizona blue. I'm jealous of your eclipse glasses, but I'm glad you thought to get them in time for my party.
Russ, just WATCH yourself with that "BIG NUMBER" talk. I've got your number. Literally, I have your cell phone number. Still, thanks for that great rocket launch, and for the Venus thing. You shouldn't have!
Gaelyn, that was thoughtful of me, wasn't it? And, win-win, you will post eclipse pictures.
Sherry, I just can't be this thoughtful all the time. However, I have scheduled a substantial part of Sunday in mid-southern Florida to be completely sunny, with some possible fluffy clouds.
I think the Universe is telling me 'even the Sun can't shine ALL the time." Well, technically it really does, but it's the imagery we're going for.
Not fat~zaftig.~Mary
Hahaaaa brilliant .....
Didn't realize Tucker was that fat! You shot him at a bad angle .. you show him that picture?
You're right, Mary. That sounds soft and plushy.
Carolyn, he was holding in his stomach.
Happy Birthday Roxanne!
Thank you, Jojo and Cheryl! I'll have one!
