Flagstaff is groovy.

BREAKING NEWS: Rain in Flagstaff. We accept it just as if we wanted it.

Lori and I went to Yoga in the Park in her subdivision. It's seductive, this lure of neighborhood parks, block parties, and cultured organized activities. Not seductive: my yoga pants. There's a reason the dog faces downward. The instructor, a lithe, willowy young thing, tried to help us all with our poses, but she had to give up and put her mat next to me. Ma'am, are you crying? What are you doing with your leg? Why is your head like that? Do you want me to call someone?

We all spent a lot of time in downtown Flag (locals don't use the whole word) this weekend, enjoying crafts and arts. I never know the difference. The place feels good.

Arizona Snowbowl (a ski resort) has reached an agreement with the City of Flagstaff to buy its reclaimed sewage water, pipe it to the top of the Peaks, and make fake snow with it. There are environmental concerns, as you might suspect, besides the concept of taking a dump in someone's church and sticking around to pee there all winter long. The Peaks are holy to the Dine', the Hopi, and eleven other tribes.

But, I just said the place has a good vibe, and so it does.

This is not a Steve Martin scimitar. She's actually balancing it on her head.

Photobucket
Seriously? She's balancing it on her head?

We're as languid as slugs on a salt-free cracker. We should move on before a ranger lays down a mineral lick. We have a few ideas:

I can wedge the rig in here.

Did you know this about olive oil?

Looks like you had a great day. Fake olive oil???? Isn't anything sacred?

The Good Luck Duck said...

I know, right? And, what about people who are counting on olive oil for certain health benefits? Punked, and then some.

Just recently learned the truth about Santa and NOW THIS??? Actually, yes I did know about the fake olive oil. I swear...eating is one big scam. For the real deal go here: http://www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com/category/food-oils-olive-oil.php

They look good and sound great. It sounds like olive oil gets hijacked and cut between the farm and the supermarket, so good growers may not equal good oil. Some soundbyte I read said that Italy sells three times more olive oil than it produces. Maybe Turkish oil escapes the piracy?

Your description of self-inflicted yoga is priceless, Roxanne. I made MTM practice with me the other night. I suspect you and he would get along famously in the yoga room.

Wow, looks like fun, if you like lots of people. :)

Re: Arizona Snowbowl.....where the effluent meet the affluent.....

The Good Luck Duck said...

OH Chris, very good!

Which I don't, Chinle, but I don't get panicky, and an afternoon is fine.

Ha, Andra! Yeah, Annie is content to let me go my own twisty way without involving her in any of it. Poor MTM.

We only use Genco Pura around here. Vito says it's the best.

The Good Luck Duck said...

He made you an offer it didn't seem prudent to refuse?

Yoga R good for you. Looks like Olive oil may not be but then we knew that already. Talk to Esselstyn and Ornish. Who knows what to do with all this fake food and now fake oil. It's enough to make grown foodie cry. I like the looks of them campsites.

The Good Luck Duck said...

Don't cry, Sherry - eat some walnuts. We don't use olive oil anymore. When we used it, it was the Cheap Town Slut kind because the Extra Virgin was no fun, so I'm pretty sure it was motor oil.

I don't think yoga was so good for the young instructor who had to drag me home on my mat.

Michael Ultra said...

I hope to heck someone would make me an offer I couldn't refuse!

It's gonna happen. That's a beautiful house that lots of people would love to own. One of those people is going to have the money, too.

Looks like "Flag" looks like a happening place all kinds of stuff; Yoga, Belly dancing, Indian dancing, "Bansky?" Who new.

I do the downward dog but only in the company of my dogs :) Lord knows I have the belly for Belly dancing but really. Recently, ran across “NIA Dancing” that gives you the benefit of Yoga and Belly dancing and Thi Chi combined into one easy step. I can see it now R & A in the forest doing your Nia Dancing freedom to a new level. Check out this intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zbIUuD_4uM&feature=related

Harriet, thanks for the video. Have you tried NIA yet? I think it would be better than underwear for keeping neighbors at a respectful distance! Or, do it in my underwear - double plus.

There were beautiful, skilled women with BELLIES doing belly dancing, not just slim women. I'm glad when women say PBBTTTH to societal expectations for their bodies.

Gives a whole new meaning to "don't eat yellow snow."

The Good Luck Duck said...

YUCK! Yes, it certainly does.

I bet the rain is a good insurance against those nasty wild fires.
Pretty colorful dancing in Flagstaff.

We've been to 'Flag', but you obviously found a lot of things there that we never saw. Good post.

The Good Luck Duck said...

P + B, it sure helps. We could use rain like that every day for a while.

Thanks, Rick. It's an appealing city.

I love Flagstaff and thank goodness for rain! Very disturbing about the olive oil. I had no idea!

The Good Luck Duck said...

I know! We don't use it, but used to for years. I guess there was no point in it.

The good rain yesterday gave us an inkling of where our latest leak is, so that's good to, in a good news/bad news kind of way. Annie's up there right now enjoying the view.

I laughed myself silly reading your yoga dialogue. Too funny!

Now I get to spend the whole afternoon silly!! Thanks so much :) Silly looks good on me.....well my husband doesn't so much think so, but the dogs and chickens do. The kids just look at me a sigh!

The Good Luck Duck said...

Excellent! My work here is done.

Well...we finally had rain in Illinois. It lasted a few hours, then the sun came out...again. I swear we've never been in anything like this before. Now our "cooling trend" means another 10 days with no rain and temps in the 90s...ooh...better grab my sweater! Mountain rain...we miss it so much. That scent of pine that is left behind after a good dousing. Wish we could be there right now!

The Good Luck Duck said...

I feel like all the old weather patterns are now mostly-forgotten suggestions. 90's used to be hot - remember those days?

Jim And Robin said...

Yes, we do remember!

I also remember being a little girl, growing up in Chicago, where every big Christmas Eve party was a white Christmas. In fact, sometimes the big celebration would be canceled due to snow conditions on the road. Even some Thanksgivings had snow! Now it seems rare to have any accumulation before January. Even living in Montana, we would come home for the holidays - and were surprised and how it felt like fall...

The Good Luck Duck said...

I can imagine that it won't be long before I miss a little white Christmas action.

Nickie and Jim said...

Okaaay, now I know I'm often 2000 and late, but whatz with the photo of toes? Yikes - is that a toenail on the ground near your piggies? Or are you simply demonstrating dog-tired feetses?

Send some rain to Nevada City CA!!!

The Good Luck Duck said...

Haha! I don't think those piggies do enough to get dog-tired yet. Give him a chance to start walking! I just think it's charming how he crosses his ankles. So demure.

We're just barely getting rain here. It's our first monsoon season, and we were expecting big things.

Nickie and Jim said...

Ahhh, of course, the cute little baby (duh!!).

Rain is a whole lot better'n a wildfire... like I said, send some precip our way, pul-eez!

Scimitar? What scimitar?

That wall art (pun intended) looks like the work of the guy whose stuff I've been photographing. He sure gets around. Anyone mention his name?
