Pat plays vintage baseball for the Phoenix Senators. Vintage baseball is like baseball, only nicer. Games last about an hour, which is a fine amount of time to watch sports. If I were going to play a sport (I'm not), I might consider this one (I won't). These folks were all friendly types. They don't have an arbitrator (umpire) anymore, so they just call their own plays. Then they kick dirt on themselves and impugn their own eyesight.
We were the audience, mainly because this wasn't home field for either the Senators or the Bisbee Bees. After the game the players gave us great ideas for seeing Bisbee, including directions from which not to arrive. There will be a tournament in Bisbee April 6 & 7; admission will be used toward renovating the bathrooms in the 100+ year old stadium. And you know that if you're over 100, your plumbing is going to fail.
If you're looking for a team sport but lack the killer instinct, I recommend this one.
Thanks, Pat! That was something we wouldn't have done without your suggestion, and then we would have been sorry. We had a good time meeting you. You're a funny guy!
This morning we were lucky enough to meet Grace and Steve, Tucsonans who are preparing to go full-time boondocking! Steve will retire this month and Grace has another couple of years, but there will be no resentment there.
They already boondock when they can, and enjoy the challenges of extreme conservation. Fist bump, you guys.
Grace is an artist who is accomplished in watercolor, but she wanted an artistic outlet that would work with small spaces. Now she does bead embroidery (and it's even more beautiful in person).
Steve is tackling internal combustion, and I'm not talking about our breakfast. They have also outfitted their own RV with solar and the accessories.
Somehow I forgot to ask them what they do for The Man, but they're clearly not focused on that. It was great to spend time with you guys - thank you!
Annie and I might see some petroglyphs tomorrow, but that's not carved in stone.

Lots a of wonderful folks in AZ. Including you two.
Oh what fun we had meeting you two today! Keep on enjoying this wonderful weather!
Grace & Steve (in Tucson)
Vintage baseball that only lasts an hour? Now I could get into that!
Where are you at? I am also in Tucson.
Jo, I just sent you an email!
I know just what you're saying, Judy. I hadn't even had time to throw myself onto the ground in misery and desperation when the game was over.
We're loving it, Grace!
Aw. Thanks, Gaelyn! We feel the same about you.
The folks I've known who have moved to Tucson are definitely exceptional. They seem to go there or New Mexico, and the ones who stay here in Oklahoma, well...
I can't wait to hear what you all think of Bisbee.
Well now they've already said everything, what can I add? I'm not even in Tuscon so I can't meet up with cool people or see appropriately long vintage baseball. I guess I'll just have to watch the sunrise over the Atlantic and mope.
Sunrise! Blech! Ocean, gross-out. That all sucks, Sherry. I'm sorry.
Haha RJ. Poor Oklahoma. Its reputation is so...deserved. :D Yes, as unexceptional as I am, I still have a hankering for New Mexico, too.
I have to say into the air:
WHY?? WHY, oh WHY must I always misspell in the TITLE so that it follows me around, unalterable? *SOB*
It was great to meet both of you too. The games are fast, that's why I ended up playing three in a row.
Glad tat you had such a good time both with the vintage baseball and with Grace and Steve. We look forward to meeting with them some day too. They sound like our kind of people.
You know that petroglyphs are just old fashioned graffiti, lol!

K & R - it's true. Really, really patient graffiti. Yes, you would definitely get along. Were your ears ringing today? :D
Pat, I like short sports!
Do let me know if you go to Bisbee.....I have a longtime friend who lives there you just have to meet....
Great story, now we have even more to do in Tucson.
Sounds like a great day to me... Funny carved in stone ~ lol lol
Have fun
Donna
You meet the nicest people traveling! :-)
It's true, Cheryl! :D
Haha Donna - thanks for getting that!
Nancy, I didn't even know a Biosphere was here in Tucson - thanks for talking about it.
Okay, Chris - will do!
I like college football, but in the comfort of my own home where I can change the channel if I get bored! Vintage baseball sounds great. A pleasant way to spend an hour in the sun. I often wonder about the big money and commercialism surrounding some sports and wish we could harken back to the days of sandlot baseball or a pick-up game of basketball...but I digress.
Loved Grace's bead work; just beautiful. Had to look at her watercolors too as long as I was on her site. They were equally impressive.
I would LOVE an outfit like this... love the pants
Not carved in stone? That was really bad!!!!
Rick, I can only offer a cheesy grin. :D <---
Aren't they fun, John? I think you and they would look wonderful in your village.
But you never get bored watching Ducks, right Donna? Yeah, I like opportunities for fun that don't include brutal competition and rancor.
Grace does beautiful work.
I leave a response whenever I like a post on a site or I have something to add to the conversation.
It is triggered by the sincerness communicated in the article I read.
And after this post "Ducks meet the best people - Tucson".
I was actually excited enough to post a thought ;) I do have a couple of questions
for you if it's allright. Is it just me or does it appear like some of these comments appear like they are coming from brain dead individuals? :-P And, if you are posting on additional social sites, I'd like to follow anything fresh you have to post.
Could you make a list the complete urls of all your community pages like your linkedin profile,
Facebook page or twitter feed?

Here we call it "old-timers" baseball. I'm not sure I approve of that name though, since the guys I know who are playing it are younger than me! :)
They (and their families) say it's a lot of fun and I'm glad for them. But, like you, I'll find other ways to amuse myself.
...okay, long-belated comment as I read through your ENTIRE BLOG, but I've been inspired to see if there's vintage baseball being played nearby, and funnily enough, there is! I'll be heading down to Fairmount Park in Philly sometime in April to catch a game, I think. I'm glad you posted about this!
ENTIRE? You won't thank me for that. Enjoy the vintage ball, though - we liked it.
Too late! I already read the whole thing. (It was either that or mope around the house again.) Possibly I need a hobby, but possibly I've already found it.
