Getting into the weapon garden was pretty easy. We parked on the outside, got our pass, and walked in.

We kept on going to Alamogordo, because once you're this far, you're a fool to turn back without seeing it. There was a snack to be had at Brown Bag Deli. I don't want to say Cheryl's omnivorous toasted sub looked delicious. I don't want to say it. My vegan sub was also tasty, special-ordered.

Great post. Sounds like you are doing okay but that seems like a hot area to be car camping in. Did you at least get the duck to retain your luck?

I really enjoyed seeing the pics of the 'white sands'. It's an amazing place - we were there in 2008 and couldn't believe how white those sands were - they looked like snowdrifts!
Sunglasses are mandatory out there! People were sledding, too.
I'd be a little worried about the artillery. Love those white dunes.
We really want to get there the next time we're in New Mexico. It's such pretty sand! Very different from what we have here.
Is the word "interdunal" really necessary?
Poconos???? Only you would have thought up that word for a description. It's most definitely 'on the nose.'
And me sitting here not even knowing NM had white sands much less interdunal areas on the sands and with cyanobacterial bumpy areas. Apparently I need to go on more vacations. Just sayin'

You do have a way with words. I had a wonderful laugh this morning. We loved those white sands but we didn't get any of those technical words learned.
Nice! I haven't been to White Sands (yet!), but I understand they have a pretty cool evening event there during the full moon. Glad to see you and Cheryl got out to have some fun.
Some years ago, the military (I think it was the military) imported some African oryx to eat the invasive grasses and flora that was destroying the area around the White Sands. As it usually happens, though, they critters enjoyed the area too much, proliferated and now there are hunting seasons for oryx in NM.

Chuck and I need to make a visit to White Sands before we leave NM! The next time you are near Alamgordo, you might want to head a bit more north to Three Rivers... great little boondocking campground and acres and acres of boulders covered with petroglyphs!

Great photos! You captured the blue skies I'm missing since we're now in Oklahoma. "The sky is so blue today" -- you mean that pale, almost-white-with-just-a-hint-of-color overhead...THAT's blue???" I so miss the mountains when we're in the Midwest. You should check out Ruidoso & Cloudcroft while you're in the vicinity. Thanks for the NM fix -- I'll take it when- and how-ever I can get it.

You are right, that's WHITE. Great photos. I'm off into the wilderness near Jackpot NV hoping to find some fine rocks - may stay out there awhile.
The Vitara had some electrical problems so bye bye. got a Dodge Dakato. I got the idea of the tent from you. It came today. Yes going camping. YAHOO!
