There's a lot of history here, but I don't know any of it. I know this town has je ne sais quoi, I just don't know what it is.
The library is the cutest library ever (until the next town). You can get wifi there 24/7, you just have to stop in during business hours and get the sign-in and password. It's across the street from this building on North Main Street. I forgot to take its picture because of my rapturous admiration, and I had to pee.
Magdalena is having a water crisis, and there is just one general opinion about its cause. Ask a Magdalenan.
You know what has to come next, right? Right?

Glad you had a cool time in Magdalena! I found the little town when looking for the VLA. Fell in love with the area and have some property by Riley and old ghost town. Enjoy the rest of your travels.

How is Magdalena's water situ? I thought I read that their well had run dry and they were importing water? (read that a few weeks ago I think)
Exemption as a RR track means buses, and other vehicles required to stop at RR tracks are exempt from doing so.
Been to T or C a couple times. Funky little place. Had hoped to get up into that area you are in now a couple years ago but we didn't make it. Think it was cold weather that changed our mind.

I always like signs like Dog Restroom but mine might not like such a barren surface. She thinks toilets should be green.

Mary, people will build garages for the oddest things! Your pup would be desperate for a Comfort Station out here where green is a rare color.
Al, as I'm typing I'm freezing my bill off. In an hour I'll be peeling off anything that peels. Datil is a fun area to explore, though; Pheebs will load you in the Jeep and that'll be the day.
Peter, the situation is very bad, but the woman I talked to said help in on the way to re-dig the depleted wells. The fire station is distributing bottled water twice a day for cooking and drinking. Natives will be happy to share their porta-potties with you, but don't expect to flush.
Isn't it beautiful, Gaelyn? Yeah, it's good to be up here, even though it's in the 90's. That's manageable when there are trees and breeze.

The large array is still on my list and someday I'm going to make it there. I find it fascinating. But I sure hope I can flush when I get there. Such a cute antelope butt.
Sandie, it's kind of silly how excited I was to see it. It's like I discovered it. The VLA may let you flush, but I can't vouch for it.

Jeff Dukatt (with the tie dye) has been a friend of ours for years! Chuck and I had a tie Dyed wedding and Jeff did my dress, Chuck's shirt and all the shirts for grandkids! It was a fun wedding! Jeff is a for-real character! The lady who bought our place here has a son working at the VLA. I think you managed to photograph a very young pronghorn! Great shot! You make me wish that we had spent more time exploring Magdalena! It got hot the last day we were camped at Datil, but the nights are frosty!

What the heck is that beautiful critter with the big white butt that looks like a cross between a colt and a deer? Very different - I've not seen that animal yet. Long, long legs, mane on his neck, I'm really stymied. Very cute.
I just read up the comments, should have done that first, and it's an antelope? or a very young pronghorn. Or is a pronghorn the same as an antelope? I agree with one commenter, it's a very strange looking little pony. I see some research in my future. :)

No RR Crossing is "Exempt" to HAP Alaska... all drivers must stop or loose jobs. HAP Alaska is Holland America Princess Lines company that runs all the buses for the cruise lines. There train in the lower 48.

Loved your tie-dye wedding post! I wonder how many weddings Jeff can say he has outfitted? There were half a dozen shirts of his I wanted, and I'm particular about my tie-dye. Yes, nights here have been perfect for sleeping, and days have been very comfortable.

Sherry, some family by the name of VeryLarge owns that array. They go by the nickname of NRAO. It's between Magdalena and Datil. And, it wasn't a sign, it was a mirror.
