I've been experimenting with sleeping configurations in Spud. Tent up, tent down, one curtain up, two curtains up, no curtains up, curtains as blankets. Nights have been consistently 37° at the lowest, and when Spud is closed up I'm very comfortable.
The tent lets me sit up and read or watch a movie in the evening. It may be worth putting it on, then taking it off before I sleep.
I experienced a 24-hour period of technical challenges that were easily-solved, thanks to friends and the Internet. Dead battery, stuck hatch, rat (solution pending), and a lost wallet. All is well. Things are always working out for me.
Occasionally, I fall into what Chris told me is "awfulizing." I don't like it. I recommend against it. Tell your friends to stop doing it, too. Instead, distract yourself by looking at this leaf disguised as a bug.
These guys seemed to notice I was interested, and circled back directly overhead.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Yep, things are always working out for you.
When I googled "awfulizing," I also learned about "musturbating" and "shoulding on yourself." All based on irrational beliefs that have nothing to do with being in the moment with that leaf masquerading as an insect. Ain't nobody got time for that.
I have had some 24 hour periods like that....Anxiety, fear and phobias..oh my!! We are all ok...It is those periods of time when we aren't that make us realize most of the time we are just fine.
I am familiar with this "awfulizing" you speak of. It's a dreadful thing really. Awful in fact. I'm getting better at not doing it. I've downgraded to "poopyizing". Poopy being a very temporary state, easily cleaned up. :)
Really, really beautiful photos!
Awfulizing is a perfect word and gives me a name for something I do. Cool! Now I have its name, it has no power. Theoretically. ;)
Awfulizing! Think I'm familiar. Happens at 3 AM, right?
Boy, does it EVER, Kim! 3AM is its very favorite time.
Here's to the power of vocabulary, Linda.
Thanks, Annie!
"Poopyizing." Very good. It's hard to take it seriously.
It's true, Nancy. And, through most of those times we "aren't," we are then, too.
LOL Sue! I'll read up on those other thieves of now. Now that I got time for.
I love that leaf bug. Boy does he have good camouflage! (Not on your window, though.)
I have a couple of things on my blog's right side bar that REALLY took care of my rodents, and of course, now the lights in my engine will keep them out of there.
They are cheap, too - one is Fresh Cab pouches filled with cedar chips and other things. The odor, which is nice for us but they don't like it, will keep them away. Amazon.com or many stores will have it.
If they DO get in, TomCat mouse or rat traps, which are $$ cheap and easy to use, really worked for me. You can get them at any Wa-Mart or other grocery stores. Or order from Amazon.com.
Also the sticky traps, but you don't have a lot of room there and you don't want to have your things (or you) stuck to them. Good luck with that - it's such a pain!!! :(
You have certainly been busy. May the best choice win. what ever that maybe. :)
I'll take a look, Barbara. So far the critter is in my engine. We would notice each other in Spud's "cab." I'll check out your light situation; do you just use them when you're stationary for a while? I don't know why they're liking Spud's engine and not anyone else's, unless no one else is close enough to their engine to hear the kerfuffle.
Seems like a van would be easier to live in. You could just trade in rat and all.
If it's a pack rat, they are territorial and will seek out your car only once they've "claimed" it. Leaving will take care of the problem, so long as you go somewhere far enough away. Keep a close eye on things because they will chew things up bad in there! I speak from experience. Another good thing to do is to take Spud to a car wash and soap everything down everything under the hood and rinse really good. They like to make their homes in there. You want to do everything you can to discourage that. A light on under the hood at night helps too.
Uh, "rat"?
Bleen, I was supposing I had a packrat, but it turns out they're bigger than Spud's engine compartment. Maybe a mouse? I don't know, but I'm willing to consider muscicide.
Brenda, if I leave and it stays, that probably means mouse, right? The flashlight in the engine is the only thing that helps. Maybe leaving the engine "running" (it will come on for a minute about every 15 minutes).
Gaelyn, will the free mouse increase my trade-in value? Maybe if I buy a used Disney van?
Jo, here's to the "best choice."
You're sure it's too small for a pack rat? I didn't think they were that big. And rodents are highly squishable....as in fitting into really tight spaces. I don't know that much about mouse behavior.
Packrats are about as big as squirrels, and I've been seeing them run around. Could be ... do rats hate peppermint, too?
Kangaroo rats are popular in NM. They like cars and vans.
They're those cute guys with tail poofs? I hope they don't like peppermint.
That looks like great fun!
