Friends here threw me a going-away party, and have become impatient for me to go-away. How can we miss you if you won't leave? Fine! I'll leave no later than very soon.
I've spent a lovely two weeks girl-camping with Vermont Chris, Jeannie, and Andi. Girl-camping is just like regular camping, but cuter.
Edna is right-sized. And darned cute. |
They all left (me alone and blue) this morning.
It has been crazy-windy around here lately, which unreasonably made me want to wash Spud at the Elephant Butte car wash. This was ill-advised (picture it). The upside is that I am protected against the weather, and am ready to buff.
I'm going to Datil this week to spend a couple of days with the cabin. I've realized for some time that the place needs a name, so if I spend some quiet time with it I hope it will suggest itself to me.

A friend from back in New York State was shocked to read that I intend to camp this winter, having just bought a "house." Her incredulity made me wonder if I have made my plans clear outside my head.
I want the cabin to be a haven, but not a homestead - yet. I want a place to be, whenever I want to be there, and for as long as I want to be there. A home base. I left New York with the intention of seeing things. My personal and family life has changed since then, but my desire to explore has only increased.
Tell me where you think I should explore this winter.

Most normal RVers are going to Quartzsite in January. What that has to do with you I have no idea.
HAHA!
Also cute: Nell and Riley! I just spent more time with Edna. Sorry, Other Doggies!
Head south to Bisbee, Tombstone, Ajo.... all great place to be!
Oh yeah, girl camping rocks!
Wish I had some western suggestions for you this winter but I haven't. Eager to hear what and where's next.
Very nice photography!!
Agree with Geri about Bisbee and south if you want (relative) warmth. I'd suggest Cortez, Moab or Driggs and Yellowstone for snow-fun.

Go East, .....TX and LA and FL, even GA. And then there is the RTR in SC in March. And then come to Vermont next summer! Please, pretty please.
Especially lovely pix today. Thank you! Enjoy the cabin and say "hi" for me. xo

If you head to Bisbee, let me know. I have a friend there that you might like to meet.
I love that cat painting. Like a whole bunch. I think you should come to Florida. We even have a bed in the guest room now. :)
Maggie, I'll say "howdy" to Morty for you, too. Get well and get the hell outta there.
Very tempting, Chris!
That looks very nice and posh, Brad!
Love the video, Rodney. Yes, that's the story. I never want snow-fun. I don't even know what that is.
Thanks, P&B!
I'll report back, Kim!
Good ideas, Geri! I love Bisbee and Ajo, and Tombstone is fun for a day.
Does Spud know any Spanish? Come on down to Mexico this winter!
Well I just love your landscape pictures AND EDNA. Great dog, great name. Bring her to Florida for the winter. Anxious to see your new cabin - take lots of your always fabulous pictures please.
Anza Borrego!
While I love Bisbee it snows there. Don't like snow myself unless its in pictures.
BTW love your pictures the blues are fabulous. Going to check out a new campground tomorrow. If it suites me I may go there next week.
I love your pictures of the sky. They're just beautiful. Good job, Duck.
Lots of places down south, if you bring your own toilet.
Great shots.
Be one with the cabin.
good question! Looking forward to the answers!
" I want a place to be, whenever I want to be there, and for as long as I want to be there. A home base". Yep, sure know what you mean by that line alright:))
Okay Roxi, you have beeen in the Southwest way to long. Why not head to Florida. The Panhandle and down to the keys ! When I had my RV I spent a winter slowly heading down the panhandle and a few months in the keys. Boondocking in the keys can be tricky but I managed it (alltho a few years ago ! ) . Pretty nice winter weather and lots of fun . Technomadia (RVRS ) spend some time on some island down there.
Jan, do tell! I like Bisbee a lot, so the chances of me going there are high.
Brenda, I love that cat painting, too. It's about 4X6, and I can't stop myself from admiring it every time I go. [I like Florida, too!]
LOL, SSue! How can one be in the Southwest "too long"? Although an unconventional situation in the Keys would be very sweet. I think I remember Cherie and Chris being in Cedar Key? But maybe they were down south, too, and I missed it.
I know you do, Al! And you found that sweet place!
Okay, Saunter, I'm on a mission to seek and report.
Well, Gaelyn, I may have to resort to self-pottying.
Thank you, Allison! It's a show-off sky.
Right you are, Jo. I'll watch the forecast before I spend any overnights there. Thanks about the photos - NM blues are kind of show-offy, too.
Anza Borrego, indeed! Good call! I'll have to bring my potty there, too, won't I?
Edna is a lot of fun. She will probably hit Florida this winter, but not (necessarily) with me. I will take pictures, or perhaps I should post the ones already taken?
Spud knows "Buenos dias!" and "¿Donde esta la gasolina, por favor?" and "¡Voy a trabajar para el aceite de motor!"
I love where you are now but can't wait to see where you go....Datil sounds great, I cannot wait to see more pictures and picture myself in your shoes, whatever size...Love the bug pictures that you include..you are the BEST...I say go where the wind takes you and we will come along on your shoulders. Keep up the good work. Blessings from Shirlene in Cali.
Oh Roxie,,, I miss you already... I vote Texas, pan-handle and swamp hang-outs in Fla.. (of course w/ us!) Beauteous Pictures, thanks!
Andy, I would only have fun if I hung out with you guys! That's ... THE WHOLE POINT! I'll be right there! I miss you, too. It was so peacefully cool to hang with you.
Shirlene, you're so kind. Thank you for those sweet words!
Well, if your a Hugger, I would Hug the Border for the Winter. South Texas, Southern Arizona or Southern Cali. I'm a Hugger myself .... lol.
Trainman
Chris and Cherie are on their way to Cedar Key now. Beautiful area! Chuck and I will be in Apalachicola for a month or so... then heading further south but you are welcome to catch up to us where ever we are parked in Florida!
Beautiful photos. Edna is too cute, she would fit in with Oliver and Olivia just fine.
Go to Quartzsite Jan 7-21. Who said that? Oh, me, I did, again and again and again. The other day I took a guy out to see the petroglyphs here and remember when I took you there. He blogged about it.nnhttp://strollingamok.wordpress.com/2013/11/01/tysons-wash-petroglyphs/comment-page-1/#comment-426
Edna is a huge personality.
Lol, Swankie. That was a good trip. I never would have found them on my own.
