Paseo Del Rio: "living in a van down by the river"

[loosely translated]

Please enjoy these photos approximately 18 times longer than you normally would, to honor the time it took up upload them. Fast internet is not one of Paseo Del Rio's strengths.

There are open campsites here, even on this holiday weekend.

Out in the country, where cats take walks. Not Paseo Del Rio.

Antony.  I think I can get him to teach me Spanish.

Herr Onn. I think I can get him to teach me German.

This was a jail way back when (~ 100 years ago).

This is where the dam workers might end up if they got too dam drunk and stole some dam thing.

I took this picture back in ninety-eighty-aught-aught-eleven.

I thought I might head out before now, and then I got to remembering some mail it would help me to have (computer charging cords), so I'm waiting around for that. Plus Easter dinner with my very generous and hospitable camping neighbors. This morning they invited me over and fed me coffee and donuts and tamales. Thank goodness I had eaten tamales in some other lifetime, or I would have bitten into the corn husk. Thanks, I'll be here all week. There are worse things than amusing your hosts.

The family just now sent messengers to invite me for dinner. Gotta run!

Looks like a little slice of heaven you got yourself there, Roxanne! Now we want to hear you curse in German AND Spanish when you burn your tongue on a hot tamale!

Like those photos from Paseo Del Rio cause they bring back memories of our couple times there. Know exactly where your camped, we were at the other end.

Wish you could teach me to blog funny.

You're laughing in uncomfortable embarrassment for me. I can teach that.

Al, those fine end sites are now reserved for folks with handicapped tags. They are quite nice, indeed - big and convenient pull-throughs.

Poor us, Swankie. Pass me a tissue.

Jill, that's a goal I can own.

What a great spot you landed there. Tamales -- one of my very favorites. And be sure to SAVOR them; have you ever tried to make them from scratch? Only if you have an entire weekend and a half-dozen (or more) extra hands. Herr Onn -- HA HA!!

That's the kind of neighbors that make a camp site great! Bon appetit!

What wonderful and lovely neighbors! So blessed to live this life of chance encounters!

I'm in New England, a bit too early this year. Paseo Del Rio is looking real good from here. Even without the tamales!

LOVE the Heron photo - just beautiful. You've got a great site - and probably the only one with an internet connection. Yeaaaa for you! :)

I do like this site, Barbara. Not that I chose it for its proximity to the bathroom, of course.

Contessa, the weather is just lovely. We had some good rain over the weekend, and now just balmy breezes and clear skies.

Jo, I'm sure the four cells' worth of ne'er-do-wells appreciated the castle-like architecture. Made them feel special. I prefer to eat veganish, and accept and appreciate generosity in whatever form it presents itself.

Ooh, Cyndi. Brr. New Mexico beckons you southwestward. Just ask Stumpy.

Lynda, I think those encounters are my favorite part of this life. And then the solitude. And then the encounters. It's a good life, isn't it?

I enjoyed it, Teri. Maybe someday I can tell the menudo story, but not yet. :o)

I agree, Dawn!

Renee, the tamales were delicious. No, I've never tried making them - yikes.

Stumpy totally agrees with you. But we're here until late September. It'll warm up soon (I keep telling myself!)

*waves at Cyndi and Stumpy *

I could probably teach you some German.

I had to be taught how to eat tamales too. :)
