Paint your pallor blue and grey,
Look out on a summer's day,
With ticks that know the darkness in my soul.
Vermin laden hills,
Scratch my knees and take some pills,
Catch disease and other ills,
Of horrors spawned from southern backwoods land.
Now you understand what I tried to say to ya,
How you suffered tularemia,
Now you fight with edema.
You would not listen, you did not know how.
Perhaps you'll listen now.
He wrote another verse, but saved it for my birthday (50 is the bloodborne pathogen birthday):
We've been coughing through the smoke and squinting through the haze of the nearest forest fire, which is at the county line. Firefighters say they need a tropical storm's worth of water to normalize the situation.

I've decided to see all the movies referenced in Science Fiction/Double Feature. After that, I address homelessness and social justice. Last night: The Day the Earth Stood Still.

It's not true they don't work, because we haven't burned at all. But, we have cute little tans.
He wrote another verse, but saved it for my birthday (50 is the bloodborne pathogen birthday):
Second verse, dire as the first...
STARI, STARI, night.
Flaming rash that brightly blaze,
Swirling rings in reddened haze,
Reflect in Roxanne's eyes of china blue.
Colors changing hue, morning wake of aches & pain,
Weathered faces curse in vain,
Are soothed beneath the traveler's swollen hand.
Now you understand what I tried to say to ya,
How you suffered tularemia,
Now you fight with edema.
You would not listen, you did not know how.
Perhaps you'll listen now.

I've talked about Berkey water filters for years, and at the last minute I veered off-course and bought the Doulton SS2.

Products that don't work. |

What! Because of you, I bought the Berkey filter and love it. That one looks like the same thing. Only less expensive ...
Oh well. Those products don't work so well for me either. Plus I get skin reaction from them. So I use hats.
Love, love, the poem.
And happy birthday! Welcome to the half century club.
I'm glad you love it - I would feel very guilty if I had steered you wrong. I just happened to read about the Doultons today, and went with it; my "buy now" finger was ready to get the Berkey. It will probably be a toss-up.
He's a very funny and clever man!
Thanks! I like 50 - it feels like AARP and senior coffee at McDonald's!
That poem may give me nightmares!

It made me wear a tick collar. Maybe if you sing it with the tune to "Vincent" it won't be so terrifying.
Age has its privileges. Senior Coffee at McDonald's is half price. To maximize this benefit, make sure you ask for the free refill! Enough caffeine and you'll be ready to stand outside the Duck and shake your cane at teenagers while yelling, "Get off my lawn!"
I went to the Doulton website and it looks similar to the Berkey. Was there one thing in particular that made you go that way, or two or three? Just curious. Thanks for the comment on my blog. I don't know which one I'll go for but I do think it would be more efficient than carrying two five gallon filled bottles. Senior discounts rock!!
You are wonderfully wierd ducks...and somehow I understand. Hoping that makes me supremely cool and not ridiculously strange...:)
Nina
"But lady, our ball rolled under your Duck!"
"Well, then, it's my ball now, isn't it?"
Jeana, I think the turning point was a long and rambly (but pretty rational) review on Amazon. There was a synchronicity having to do with a recent conversation with Annie about diatomaceous earth (also found in the ceramic filter) that I'm not sure I could explain sensibly, and there was the price. Adding to my confusion was the fact that I went to buy the Berkey, and the deal had changed and we suddenly decided we didn't need the Berkey Light, but only needed a small one like the Travel or the Go. You probably wish you'd requested an explanation in English rather than my native tongue.
Nina, thank you! Even weird ducks need to be understood, but I can't say objectively what it means for your status. Let's go with "supremely cool" until proven otherwise. Besides, you guys are already cool in our book, so that choice makes the most sense.
Hey tans aren't bad. You won't look like the little white Aflak duck, but you'll look more like brown ducks or cute mallards.
Terri, that's a nice spin. This morning I look like a Muscovy.
Thanks for coming by... Added you to my favorites and will keep in touch! We are in Lake City @ IN & OUT RV Park on 90 close to interstate right now. Tuesday we head to Stephen Foster in White Springs, Fl. Take care & have fun!

Hey, Squawmama, we drive past there about three times a week, looking for decent wifi. McDonald's doesn't do it for us, but The Way Cafe over by the library has a screaming fast connection (in case you needed to know).
I hear good things about that park, and we had the funniest experience EVER in the museum/folk center. Enjoy! We're still neighbors, at that distance.
