Hello, cowboy.

PhotobucketEver alert, especially while napping, I knew the yipees and ki-yays were coming from outside my head.

I changed immediately, out of my afternoon pajamas into my afternoon pants, to investigate. These caballeros de caballos, these seƱors de vaca, they are stuffed with lore.

I detected cowboy sign:

He rode off before the sunset. Unorthodox.

Annie has been confined to the barn for several days because of her bad back. I waited on her hoof and mouth for a few minutes, then I went out.

Ancient Pueblo irrigation canal.

The nation that lived in this area about a thousand years ago is commonly called Sinagua ("without water"), but that seems wrong. Lookit the water!

My friend, Rob of Look Out, It's Evil!, introduced me to Krazy Kat once we got here. I've been reading the strips and I'm beginning to talk funny, Jinja Snep!

Again, your photos are outstanding! My favorite is the wide, open landscape one... no, it's the fushia cactus flower... wait... I think it's the pueblo. Oh heck... I love them all! Hope your sidekick gets to feeling chipper soon.

SO THAT'S where one gets Montezuma's Revenge! Be careful what you drink, ladies!

"Rode off before the sunset, unorthodox" Too funny !!! Wow, those are some beautiful scenery pics. Nothing like the contrast of water against a desert landscape. Derek from alifemadesimple.

Ya' all got a Southbound view of a Northbound horse, right there.

Lovely photos. Did you discover where the cowboy and his horse are boondocking?

Looks like a nice place to stay for awhile. Are the pueblos accessible, would be neat to walk around inside there. Beautiful pics, I like the flowers. There is lots of stuff with the Montezuma name here, too.

Montezuma's Well.....Oh Dear, I never knew he was ill.

HAR HAR, you Bayfield Bunch!

Teri, there is no access to the cliffside pueblos other than what a telephoto lens provides. The pueblo ruins at ground level are technically open, other than a sign asking you to stay on the path. I think I remember reading once that Montezuma never came here, so I'm not sure how that name came to be.

Jim and Gayle, they're probably bunking at the neighboring Bar D Ranch. I didn't get a look at anyone's brand, but that's what I suspect.

Ish, that reminds me of my step-father talking about the part of the chicken that went over the fence last.

Thanks, Derek! This area really is special, probably because of that very feature.

Oh, Marianne, you couldn't have warned me sooner??

Thanks, Sharon! And, thanks for the good wishes - I think she's healing.

Gorgeous pictures! Especially love that landscape. And your compassion for all of a couple of minutes to your devoted companion is stunning.

I used to hang out with a cowboy at the 2 Lazy 4U Ranch, but he got fired for working.

Chinle, kyuk kyuk kyuk!

Now, Sherry, that makes it sound like I barely helped at all. I said a few minutes.

I went there about a million years ago. I was awsome to see. I would like to ge back with the digital camera.
All you pictures are great.
And I heard he was never there either.
Annie feel better soon.

Great pictures!!
I hope Annie's back is better real soon. I can certainly identify with waiting on "hand and hoof." Nick is getting better and harder to keep calm. Maybe they've wait on us soon...just kidding!

Ahhh, memories of Arizona! I love your photos.

"hoof and mouth" SNORT!

Thanks, Charlene!

Carolyn, you made Annie cackle. Probably because you have her number there.

Thanks, Jojo. Aren't digital cameras wonderful?

Ha, Happy - "harder to keep him calm." Since Annie waits on me most of the time, I can't wait for things to get back to normal. :D

Thanks, Paint!

I love the afternoon pajamas !! That is what I live in when I have a day I just stay at home.
How fun it would be to chat with that cowboy if he comes back around. Photos are stunning as allways !!

Carolyn, I am with you . Not so sure about all this desert stuff. Alltho it is beautiful certain times of the year. I guess I tend to prefer mountains. I just looked at your blog and see you in Colorado. I spent a whole summer there in my rv mid 90's. One of my favorite states ! Maybe a little early for the mountains tho. So, that is when the desert comes in handy.
I hope Annie feels better soon !!!

Thanks, Sue! She seems to be mending, although she still moves gingerly.

When I first saw the desert, back in 1980, I thought it was horrible. You couldn't have dragged me back. Now it looks beautiful to me. I think I needed desert eyes to see it .

The dumb Spanish just didn't get it.

Thanks, Contessa!

They didn't, did they? It seemed to be a common thread among the European imperialists.
