Things to do while boondocking in a National Forest. And RSS feeds. And our cameras.

You've been very gracious and flattering about my photos. My camera is an unassuming Pentax Optio RX18. I have no knowledge about real photography, and so I'm glad to have a camera that knows stuff for me.

Reading Cherry's tutorial on template tweaking, I realized that my feed settings need to be on "full" to enable threaded replies. We'll see how that worked.

Which raised another question: how do you like to get your feeds?

I switched my setting to "short" a while back, for a couple of reasons. But, Camille makes a great point about full feeds. Reading blogs at work! How could I have become so quickly out-of-touch with work life?!? Not everyone has the luxury of filling their computer histories with RV travel blogs. Although, it looks better than ShirkingForDummies.biz. And other possibilities, not that I've ever been to those sites.

If you get this blog by feed (email or reader), please come over and state your preference. Do you just like to be reminded by email or reader, or do you read the whole thing there? Or, do you read the whole thing? [eyebrow raised] Bloggers, how do you feed, and why?

When we go to a new place, I like to explore by volunteering for Find-a-Grave. I just change the zip code in my settings. The Pioneer Cemetery inside the Park reminded me.

We geocache. It's fun to see what might be hidden within walking distance of our campsite. Often, lately, I don't use a GPS; I study the landscape by Google Maps and then use my geosense.

I'm especially fond of benchmarks, of which the South Rim has several.

Several days ago I messed up my jaw in a situation involving an avocado pit (don't ask - I'd tell you, and then we'd both be embarrassed). Can you suggest some self-help?

Meaner than a graveyard cow.

We did well at stonespotting in Jasper, Florida. We felt we weren't quite alone ...

Eerie.

I told Mom about FindAGrave.com, and she liked the idea.  It's a volunteer network of members taking pictures of stones for faraway families and genealogists.  In turn, someone will gladly take pictures for you.  Headstones are a key "proof" for vital statistics in family trees, but it used to be a matter of traveling back to the source.  Originally, people made paper tracings of the engraving.

We were near Jasper because Mom was having a kitten spayed.

We traveled to North Florida PAWS in Jennings for the surgery.  It's an out-patient thing;  we dropped her off at 7:30 AM and picked her up at 5.  She got her hysterectomy, rabies shot, ear mite treatment and two doses of standard vaccines (FVRCP) - they send the second dose home in a syringe - for $65.  It's a non-profit organization with a 501(c)(3) status, so donations are tax-deductible, should you be so inclined.  Annie was so impressed that she booked her own hysterectomy there for next week.

After the drop-off, we did some graving.

With three sets of eyes, we were successful. I don't count Bossy's eyes, because they never left us.

Something free for you-Plus

Here's something I've been using for a long time, since my friend Bleen said stop complaining and install this in a very nice way:

AdBlockPlus for Chrome
AdBlockPlus for Firefox
AdBlock Plus for IE (maybe.  No promises.)

I use it in Chrome, and it works so well I forget I have ads on this blog.  The only problem is that there are bloggers whose ads I click in support, and because I'm interested;  then I surf in Firefox for the full Mad Men effect.

Gratuitous sky photo:

My plan for today:  photograph headstones.  There is a cemetery nearby with five photo requests, and I'm the woman for the job.  When I nearly got into an online argument about composting toilets, it was a wake-up call for me:  Life is short, go photograph grave markers.

Annie is RIGHT THIS MINUTE composing a technical-ish post with real substance.  What you really need is a FluffBlockPlus - then you would see only blank page where my entries used to be.  It's a good product.
